Since tequila producers have long used whiskey to age their agave spirits, it seems only natural to see these barrels make the round-trip back to return the flavor! Many of these selections are limited editions so act fast to secure your bottle!

    FEW Spirits has re-released All Secrets Known Bourbon, a collaboration made with American rock band Alice in Chains. This limited edition release features fully-matured FEW Bourbon which is then finished in tequila barrels for an additional six months. The name of the release is the first track on the band's fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, and the label was designed by artist Justin Helton. Just 3,300 bottles will be available to purchase online via FEW Spirits and at select venues and retailers in Illinois and Washington beginning September 28, 2023. (SRP $60)

    Chivas Regal Extra 13 Tequila Cask is one of four limited edition releases in the brand's Chivas Extra 13 collection. Aged for 13 years, this blended whisky sees a finishing period in tequila casks before bottling. Available in travel retail beginning July 2020.

    This is the second annual Diamond Peak release, a limited edition bottling featuring a creative cask. Here, Stranahan's begins with its 100% malted barley Colorado single malt whiskey that's been aged from 5-8 years (the barrels used were virgin American oak with a #3 char). Then the whiskey is finished for an additional two years in barrels which previously held Jose Cuervo's Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo Tequila.     Deanston 15 Year Tequila Cask Finish is a limited edition single malt release from the Highlands distillery. The single malt matured for 13 years in traditional oak hogsheads before a finishing of two years in tequila casks from the Highlands (Los Altos) of Jalisco.     This is one of four releases in Bushmills second Private Reserve collection featuring triple-distilled single malt whiskeys finished with rare cask finishes. Crafted by Master Blender Alex Thomas, each single malt is vintage dated and made with 100% unpeated barley. Aged initially in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks, this release was finished in tequila casks. Availability begins February 10, 2025 via online outlets Flaviar and Caskers as well as retailers, bars, and restaurants nationwide. (SRP $74.99)

    Mary Dowling Whiskey Company (MDWC) makes its debut with two bourbon bottlings including this Tequila Barrel Finished Bourbon. Co-founded by Whiskey Maker Kaveh Zamanian, MDWC is named for an influential female distiller making bourbon prior to Prohibition. She shifted production to Juárez, Mexico during Prohibition which explains this release. Made with a high-malt double malt recipe, the Kentucky bourbon was aged for 4 years in new toasted and charred Kelvin Cooperage American oak. Then the bourbon finishes its maturation in American oak ex-tequila barrels. Available at select US retailers beginning August 2023. (SRP $75)

    Smokehead is an Islay single malt whisky brand under the Ian Macleod Distillers portfolio, an independent, family-owned distiller, blender, and bottler. This bottling is sourced from an undisclosed Islay single malt distillery and is initially aged in ex-bourbon casks. Then it's finished in tequila casks before bottling at 43% ABV. It's packaged in 700ml sized bottles and was launched in the US in April 2023. (SRP $79.99)

    Lagavulin The Ink of Legends is one of eight bottlings for DIAGEO'S 2023 Special Releases collection which has a theme of "Spirited Xchange"— celebrating the journey of Scotch, countries and cultures around the world. Selected by Master Blender Dr. Stuart Morrison, the whisky here was finished in a combination of Don Julio Añejo Tequila casks. Bottled at 56.4% ABV, it's available in limited quantities in the US beginning October 2023. (SRP $170)

    Blood Oath is an annual limited edition release crafted by Lux Row Master Distiller & Blender John Rempe. For Pact No. 11, Rempe blended three batches of Kentucky straight bourbon. A 14 year-old ryed bourbon and a 10 year-old wheated bourbon were blended with a 7 year-old ryed bourbon which had been finished in añejo tequila barrels. As with all Pact releases, this was bottled at 98.6 proof (48.3% ABV). For this limited edition release there were 51,000 bottles produced with availability beginning April 2025. (SRP $129.99)

    This collaboration between High West Distillery and Casa Noble Tequila features a blend of rye whiskeys finished primarily in French oak barrels that once held Marqués de Casa Noble Añejo Tequila. A small portion was finished in amburana wood barrels. Both Indiana-based MGP rye (95% rye, 5% malted barley) and High West Rye (80% rye, 20% malted rye) were used with the whiskeys ranging from 4-10 years-old.
