    Founded in 1703, Mount Gay is the oldest rum distillery in the world. Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask Selection Rum pays tribute to the founding of this distillery in Barbados with this blend of selected rums aged between 10 and 30 years. Mount Gay has a reputation as the "sailor’s rum", due to the frequent stopovers of ships at Barbados from the Atlantic Ocean on their way to trade in the Caribbean.

    Mount Gay Distillery in Barbados claims to be the oldest rum house in the world, dating back to 1703. Originally named Mount Gilboa, the distillery was renamed in 1801 after distillery manager Sir John Gay Alleyne. Mount Gay XO Extra Old is a blend of rums aged from 8-15 years matured in used American oak barrels that had previously held bourbon, Mount Gay Extra Old (often called "XO") is a sipping rum that also mixes nicely into cocktails that would traditionally call for whiskey. Note: This blend and label is being discontinued as of April 2020)

    J Wray and Nephew is a renowned overproof rum produced in Kingston, Jamaica weighing in at 126 proof. Wray and Nephew, as it's known behind bars, is not only a very popular spirit in its home country, but is also the top-selling high-strength rum in the world. It is produced from a combination of both pot and column distillations of a 30 hour fermentation of sugarcane molasses wash and proprietary house yeast.

    7 Ron Diplomático Ambassador Rum

    Ambassador, named in tribute to 18th century distiller Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, who was known as El Ambassador, strays a bit from Rum Diplomático’s usual style. They typically blend both column and pot still rums, but this one is a blend of 12 year-old 100% pot-still rums bottled at a slightly higher proof. On top of the usual ex-bourbon barrel aging, this one is given an extra 2 years in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Note: It is presented in a swank wooden cask.

    6 El Dorado 8 Year Rum

    The El Dorado rums are distilled at the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) in Guyana from molasses sourced from 100% Demerara sugar. They have acquired quite a few different stills from closed distilleries on the island and use a combination of them for each marque. The 8 year uses four different types of stills including an Enmore wooden column-still and a two column-metal-Coffey still. The rum is blended and aged in ex-whiskey barrels.

    5 Appleton Estate Joy Anniversary Blend

    Released in honor of Joy Spence's 20th anniversary as master blender for Appleton Estate Rums. It is a 25 year-old rum which includes some 35 year-old rum in the blend. The blend includes two rums of significance to Spence: rum from her first year with Appleton (1981) and rum from her favorite marque of pot-still rum. This rum bottling will begin to appear in markets in March 2017.

    4 Plantation Pineapple Stiggins' Fancy Rum

    Named for a character in Charles Dickens’ “The Pickwick Papers,” the Pineapple Stiggins’ Fancy Rum began as a one-off collaboration between Alexandre Gabriel and cocktail historian David Wondrich. The demand was strong enough that Plantation made it a proper release. Pineapple rinds are infused with their Plantation 3 Stars Rum for one week, then pot distilled. The fruit is separately steeped in Plantation Original Dark Rum for three months. The two liquids are blended and the resulting Pineapple Rum is rested in casks for three months before bottling.

    This is the Venezuelan distillery’s flagship rum, called “exclusiva” as a tribute to their 18th century founder Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, who was always in search of exclusive flavors for his rums. It’s a blend of 12 year old copper pot-still rums made from both molasses and sugarcane honey, aged in ex-bourbon barrels.

    Plantation Barbados 5 Year Rum is a blend of pot still and column still Bajan rums that are aged in bourbon casks for 3-4 years in the Caribbean. The blend is then finished in French oak casks at Maison Ferrand’s Château de Bonbonnet in the heart of the Grande Champagne district for 1-2 years more. Note: Formerly called Plantation Grande Reserve 5 Year.

    1 Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Rum

    The Extra Old was released to mark Alexandre Gabriel’s 20th anniversary at the helm of Cognac Ferrand. The Extra Old showcases Plantation’s oldest Bajan rum reserves, aged for 12-20 years in bourbon casks. The selected rums are blended at Château de Bonbonnet in France and finished in small French oak casks for 12-18 months.
