Lillet Blanc
Other Aromatized Wine — Bordeaux, France
Reviewed July 19, 2021 (edited April 17, 2022)I have finally gotten a chance to review the solid drink. I have already done a review of Cocchi Americano a wine that is my standard for Vermouths. While Lillet Blanc is very good it does not have the same depth of flavor as Cocchi. In the glass, this has a nice color and a wonderful nose with some fruitiness and something with a sharp smell to it. The body is good but thin when compared to Cocchi. This wine is sweeter and less bitter than Cocchi but it mixes much better with soda water as the bitterness in Cocchi came more to the front. This wine is versatile and very stable. I have had this bottle for just over 4 weeks and it is still good. In a Vesper Martini, this makes the drink much sweeter than I prefer and while not bad not as good as Cocchi. Overall, this is very good it is easy to find and generally priced around $20. Enjoy.20.0 USD per Bottle -
I finally pulled the trigger and bought this gin a little while back and I am so glad that I did. I am not generally a fan of the original Tanqueray nor the Tanqueray No 10 as they tend to be too peppery on the finish for my liking. In a few of my classic cocktail books, it does reference "Orange Gin" and they give Tanqueray Malacca as a substitute for that. On the nose and in the glass it is wonderful the juniper and citrus are right there waiting on you. Then there is the faint scent of peppercorns which worried me at first but they never overpowered the gin. The body is very smooth for a gin and could be sipped with some ice. The finish is citrusy and clean with just a touch of herbs and maybe peppercorns. Now to the cocktails, this gin makes one of the most impressive Martinni's I have ever tasted but you do have to be very careful with the vermouth. I do a 3:1 ratio of gin to vermouth and add a few dashes of orange bitters and stir it until cold. The first one was a touch heavy on the vermouth but I really watched the amount used for the second and it was outstanding. In a Gin and Tonic, the flavor can be washed away very easily so be careful but again the citrus in this is wonderful. The only real criticism of this gin is that the proof is low I wish it were between 90 and 100 proof I think it would stand up to the other flavors better. In my area of SC, it is around $30 for a liter so the price is good but with Fords and Roku this is a tough one to buy repeatedly. Enjoy.30.0 USD per Bottle

Sagamore Spirit Straight Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Maryland), USA
Reviewed May 17, 2021 (edited November 13, 2023)I picked up a bottle of this on a recent business trip and I have been looking for it in my area but no one carried it. This is a Maryland-style rye meaning that it is around 75% rye grain and 25% either corn or barley. It is light amber in the glass and the nose is a little spicey with some baking spices showing up and it does coat the glass nicely. The body is longer than I expected for an 83 proof rye with the spices, citrus, and wood showing up. There is also a little crispness in it like a mintiness but it is not mint I am impressed. The finish is not bad with a sweet and spicy ending. In an Old Fashioned, it is not bad and the citrus really comes out when a fresh orange is used. However, in a Manhattan, the vermouth can very easily mask this rye. Overall, I believe this rye is a bit overpriced at $35 in my area as Old Overholt, Rittenhouse, and James E Pepper 1776 Rye are stronger and cheaper. I will probably not purchase again unless it is on sale I think this is a $30 rye but it was not terrible. Enjoy.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Casamigos Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed April 21, 2021 (edited June 26, 2021)After my latest experience with mezcal, I picked up a bottle of tequila that I have been wanting to try for over a year now and really should have read the last few reviews here. Casamigos Blanco tequila is not worth the price and in my area, it is just above $40 a bottle and I have had better Blanco tequilas at much less in price. In the glass, it does coat the sides nicely and on the nose, it has a fairly pungent aroma but that is not bad it lets you know right off the bat that you are about to drink a real agave tequila and not tequila that has had a neutral spirit added to it. The body is earthy and a bit rough but it is a Blanco tequila with no aging. The finish is peppery and harsh with the earthy notes lingering the most. My favorite Blanco tequila is Corralejo which I will be reviewing in the next week or so. Given the price, I will not be repurchasing this again but I am on the lookout for new tequila so I am open to suggestions. Enjoy.42.0 USD per Bottle -
Del Maguey VIDA Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed April 15, 2021 (edited November 21, 2023)I bought this hoping that the first mezcal I tasted was just an odd man out but I do not like the taste of mezcal. The first mezcal I tried was Marca Negra and I did not like it as it tasted like the agave was fermented in burning Goodyear tires it was that smoky and bad. On the advice of a friend, I bought Del Maguey Vida as he said that is a good intro to mezcal so I found a bottle on sale for around $22 and picked it up. In the glass, it is very clear and coats the glass nicely. On the nose, there is a distinct smokiness and earthiness very similar to the Marca Negra but far more subdued and that is a good thing for me. The body is still burning tires but much smaller ones and maybe out in a field and not in a building where the smoke can concentrate. It does have earthy notes like a freshly plowed field it lets you know it is there. The finish is just more smoke and sadness. I really do not like mezcal sam I am. If this is your cup of tea then have at it but none of the flavors worked for me.22.0 USD per Bottle -
I first learned about shochu years ago from an Army buddy that was stationed in South Korea. He said that guys in his unit would take the new guy out on the town and have him drink loads of this stuff and when he tried to stand up he passed out. Jinro is similar to weak well-filtered vodka. It has next to no flavor on its own aside from a little sweetness very similar to Sake. Jinro has very little burn consumed neat and when mixed with any fruit juice it completely disappears. I did some research and the South Koreans will also mix this with beer to make their version of a Boilermaker. This would work best for low-proof drinks and add a little kick to beer but I do not know if I would keep it in my bar long term I just see myself using it outside a few special occasions. I believe this is worth a try especially if you like new things but to me, it is a niche drink. Enjoy.7.0 USD per Bottle

I have been wanting to try this for a while and last weekend I finally took the plunge and picked up a bottle. With the weather starting to warm up (but not last weekend) I have turned to try new warm-weather drinks like new Gin and Tonics and Spritzers which have to lead me to new gins and the like. Seersucker Southern Style Gin is a modern gin in the lines of "Gins for people that don't like gin." in that it is very soft on the juniper and is only 84 proof so it is very easy to drink and mix even neat it is not harsh. The downside is that in a regular Gin and Tonic it is very easy to wash the gin out so be careful. In a Martini with a dash of orange bitters and half the amount of vermouth, you get a solid drink. Lastly, in a Gimlet it compliments the lime very nicely but it could be flavored vodka as the lower proof can't hold up to the lime. Overall, this is good to very good gin but it is not great. In my area, it is closer to $30 a bottle and for that price, I can get Roku or Ford's so I doubt I will buy this again. Enjoy.29.99 USD per Bottle

Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino
Vermouth — Italy
Reviewed April 6, 2021 (edited September 30, 2022)I have seen this vermouth on the shelf at my local store for a while now but never pulled the trigger. I have really enjoyed the Cocchi Americano but for some reason, I never tried this until now. I opened the bottle last night and made one of the best if not the best Manhatten I have ever tried and this is the reason. In a glass, the vermouth is dark tea or reddish-brown in color. The is soft chocolate and bitter notes but they intermingle wonderfully with the first sip. The body is full but not overwhelming with bitterness and the finish is medium with sweet and bitter notes changing places in my mouth. For the price, this is one of the best vermouths on the market today. The only thing I am not sure of is how fragile it is as I have had Carpano Antica go bad after just a few weeks I do not know how long this will last. But I will have plenty of Manhanttens and Negronis during that time. I am looking forward to having friends come over and try this it really is outstanding. Enjoy!19.0 USD per Bottle -
Fords Gin Officers' Reserve
Barrel-Aged Gin — England
Reviewed March 28, 2021 (edited November 17, 2023)I finally had a chance to pick this up and I was able to taste it against the standard Ford's Gin and Tango hit the nail on the head. Something was lost when they upped the proof. Now with that said it is an outstanding gin that is smooth and well made but it is not as good as the regular offering. The nose is very similar to the standard even side by side I didn't notice much difference. With a Martini, Tango is right in that it makes an excellent drink I do a 3 to 1 most of the time and I had Dolin Dry in the fridge already and used that. The only change I made is that I put a few dashes of grapefruit bitters in the second one to try to bring out the citrus notes in each gin and it was very nice. Also, this gin just gets into the range of needing "your big boy drinking pants on" when you drink it. It is smooth and can sneak up on you. A Gin and Tonic and Gimlet are both nice but no better than the regular version. I will say this if I had tried this first it may have tasted better but the standard Ford's is a better gin and at a better price. In my area, this is about $5 more expensive and it is not a better product. Enjoy.35.0 USD per Bottle -
I finally broke down and tried this vodka and while I like this it still does not hold a candle to the taste and value of Three Olives vodka. This is a smooth sipping vodka but it has to be cold because once this is close to room temp the ethanol takes over. It does mix well with everything and it makes a decent Vesper but for the price I still enjoy Three Olives. Enjoy.17.0 USD per Bottle
