The nose starts off with some wonderful honey, apple and some citrus notes. The more you dive in you start to pick up some of the underlying floral and herbal notes from the rye. On the palate the sweet notes continue but then the pepper and spice notes start to take over. The mouth feel is thin, but not in an unpleasant way, almost silky. The only let down is the finish which ends quickly. Overall this is one of the most easy drinking ryes I've tried.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 27, 2022 (edited February 16, 2022)The nose on this is absolutely beautiful. I'm getting caramel, vanilla, candied apples, and cinnamon right off the bat. There is a slight ethanol scent (likely due to the proof: 132.7) but in no ways takes away from the pleasant scents that come ahead of it. The nose has the classic JD banana bread note along with some heat and pepper spice. You get a nice oily, full mouth feel and then you get the oak spice for a medium to long finish. Love this one! -
Castle & Key Restoration Rye 2020 (Batch 1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2022 (edited July 3, 2022)Starting off on the nose I am getting lots of sharp menthol along with some nutty and floral notes with an underlying hint of vanilla. The vanilla is found again on the palate but then waves of spice and heat take over with a little bit of licorice towards the back. There is a nice long finish with some almost peppermint freshness at the tail end. If you are in to Ryes then this one will not disappoint. -
Starts off strong with lots of butterscotch, like werthers originals but not as sweet, on the nose. There is also a faint hint of dried fruits, maybe raisins, along with some sweet corn. On the palate, the mouthfeel I kind of thin, which is surprising, but you get the same immediate hit of heat and baking spices like the orange label version, but the alcohol is almost nonexistent which is a nice surprise given the proof. Not overly complex, but absolutely enjoyable.

Compared to others this is a mild, but tasty, rye. The nose has anise, rye grain, tobacco and some honeyed fruit. The palate has the classic rye herbal notes, along with some cigar box mustiness and then some pepper at the back of the palate. The finish is mild but lingers for a nice long while. It is a little thin on the mouthfeel, probably due to the proof, but overall is an enjoyable pour.

Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2022 (edited March 19, 2022)This is the second Baker's SB I have tried, wasn't thrilled with the first one, but this one is a different story. Nose starts off heavy with apple cinnamon and then opens up to tons of vanilla and butterscotch. The palate has loads of black pepper and wood spice with an overall caramel coating that stays through a long finish. This Barrel was definitely a winner and clocked in at 7 years 7 months old. -
Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey (114 Proof)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 12, 2022 (edited February 24, 2022)On the nose you get cinnamon, dried apricots, pepper spice. The palate starts off with some faint chocolate notes, lots of heat and alcohol, along with some grain bread. The finish is medium to short in length, which is surprising given how hot it was on the palate. Overall a very nice rye that is perfect for a winter night around the fire pit.34.0 USD per Bottle -
Coopers' Craft Original 82.2 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 8, 2022Very sweet on the nose with vanilla cake icing dominating along with butterscotch and caramel. Very thin in the mouth, with some slight fruit joining the vanilla. The finish is quick and easy. Overall this is an easy sipper but not very memorable. -
The nose is somewhat of a let down, not that it is bad but that it is hard to pull out specific notes because they are so muted. After some time I do get some faint hints of vanilla, corn,, and maybe cardamom. The palate is much more enjoyable with some spice and heat coming to the fore immediately along with baking spices. The finish is wonderful and lingers a long time. This one starts of slow but then comes through at the end for an enjoyable, if unremarkable, sip.

George Dickel 8 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2021 (edited April 17, 2022)The nose starts off with hints of peaches and cream and then moves into baked apples with a light sugar coating. The Dickel gummy/vitamin note is present at the front of the palate, but then fades into a surprising bit of spice towards the back. Overall a nice full sip that does differentiate itself a bit from the normal Dickel lineup but not enough to make you forget you're drinking Dickel.
