Starward Nova Single Malt
Single Malt — Victoria, Australia
Reviewed May 3, 2020 (edited May 14, 2020)This is a really cool and different type of single malt whisky. The wine barrel is not overbearing and it has just enough sweetness on the palate. My favorite thing about this pour is the heavy oakyness, but not too oaky. -
Kamiki Japanese Cedar Cask Finish Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Multiple Countries
Reviewed April 25, 2020 (edited October 9, 2020)On the nose you get a cigar box smell without the cigars inside. The cedar cask is definitely in the driver’s seat with this whisky and it is an acquired taste. Fun to try it, but wouldn’t purchase another bottle. -
Balcones Texas Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed April 8, 2020 (edited May 14, 2020)More of an American style single malt and because it is made in Texas, the Texas heat plays a big part in the profile. Big burst of alcohol burn and much heavier texture and flavor than you would get from a scotch. Maybe a little longer in the barrels and a slash of water will tame this wild beast. -
Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 24, 2020 (edited January 5, 2022)I had this bottle as well as Aberlour 10 and 12 years in a tasting. All ages are solid and very consistent with each age being slightly better than the last.
