Glenlivet Founder's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Light oak and heather. Fleeting honey sweetness before finishing acidic and dry. Save your money and sip elsewhere. $53 in Ontario.53.0 CAD per Bottle -
Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 9, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Oak, heather and backdrop of fruit and honey sweetness. If the heather was more restrained I’d give it 4 stars but, especially for the price, it bully’s the other flavour just a little too much for my taste. $180 in Ontario.180.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery -
Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 9, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Floral heather spice and honey and apple sweetness. It’s simple and light. Decent but no stand out character. Not worth $95, in Ontario.95.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery -
Velvety smooth, plum/dark fruit sweetness with a very slight dry backbone to keep it interesting. An inviting puff of soft smoke rounds it out. There could be more richness, and the flavour’s nothing unique but it’s executed beautifully. It comes across as the best Johnnie Walker, with all the corners, edges and splinters ground perfectly smooth. $110 in Ontario.110.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery

I don’t know about that profile Distiller?? “Sweet and full bodied” Even Amanda contradicts the profile right off the bat. It’s got decent mouthfeel but it’s thin on flavour. Sweet apple, light oak, a faint suggestion of smoke, finishing dry. Basically the most delicate “scotch” you’ll ever have. Know someone who doesn’t like bold whisk(e)ys? This is safest thing you can give them. $60 in Ontario.60.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery

Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed February 1, 2018 (edited December 13, 2018)Beautifully smooth for a 100 proof but still with just enough of a bite to remind you that it’s a rye. Honey and plum/fruit sweetness, and gentle oaky rye grain/spice. There’s a depth there that keeps you going back and searching for more. I’m not sure it warrants the price but it’s an excellent rye. $153 in Ontario.153.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery -
Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2018 (edited October 31, 2018)An excellent bang for your buck rye. Rich caramelized oaky rye with a bite. Not overpowering but it won’t be forgotten. Somewhat similar to what I’d expect a further aged Sazerac would taste like, less fruity sweetness, more concentrated caramelization and spice. I can see it mixing well. A great deal at $47 in Ontario.47.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery -
Masterson's Straight Rye Whiskey 10 Year
Rye — Canada
Reviewed February 1, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Unfortunately it comes across as typically Canadian. It’s smooth and sweet with gentle rye grain and spice. It’s just a little dry, and very slightly bitter. As a Canadian whisky it’s got a great profile but as a rye it falls into the realm of boring and underwhelming. Either way it’s not worth the price. $105 in Ontario.105.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery -
Dillon's Dry Gin 7
London Dry Gin — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed January 30, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Raw/young. Sharp pine needles and a scattering of flower petals. The rye and higher ABV come through harsh and prevent it from being enjoyable, even when mixed. Nothing close to the soft lusciousness of the 22 Unfiltered. $40 in Ontario.40.0 CAD per Bottle -
Dillon's Unfiltered Gin 22
Distilled Gin — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed January 30, 2018 (edited August 17, 2018)Smooth and luscious, soft fresh picked flower petals and a hint of tropical citrus. Little to no obvious juniper. Great stand-out, one of a kind taste. Makes a beautifully vibrant floral G&T. Worlds better than Dillon's Dry. $40 in Ontario.40.0 CAD per Bottle
