Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 15, 2017 (edited August 17, 2018)I’m not nearly as impressed as I thought I’d be. It may be the fact that I’m getting a dram from the last section of the bottle at the bar but it comes across a little one note to me. Sure, I get a hint of the sherry but it’s dark and muddled with chocolate and malt. It’s like a more refined Bowmore 18 year. Like the Bowmore it’s too dark for my taste. $170 in Ontario.170.0 CAD per BottleWhite Rabbit -
Laphroaig 15 Year 200th Anniversary
Single Malt — Islay , Scotland
Reviewed December 15, 2017 (edited August 17, 2018)Sweet floral honey and pear enveloped by smooth smoky peat. It’s smoother, not nearly as medicinal as the 10 year. The sweetness is great but it’s a little floral for my taste. My closest comparison would be Bowmore 12 year but this is significantly more refined. Still not worth the price for me. $185 in Ontario.185.0 CAD per BottleWhite Rabbit -
Jose Cuervo Platino
Tequila Blanco — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 13, 2017 (edited January 22, 2021)A clear Reserva De La Familia that’s just as good as it’s aged counterpart. Delicious, rich, smooth. Same taste as the aged version but lighter, fresher tasting. Excellent. If only it wasn’t a limited edition. Not currently available in Ontario.Taco Farm -
Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 13, 2017 (edited August 17, 2018)Very smooth with subdued caramelized agave/vanilla sweetness and a suggestion of pepper. Very easy drinking. I guess I was hoping for more. It’s got a good taste but it feels like some of the richness has been filtered away with the colour. I agree with ScotchingHard. It comes across as a gimmick, best suited for the high end club scene. 1942 is better. Not currently available in Ontario.Taco Farm -
Avión Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 13, 2017 (edited August 17, 2018)Lightly flavoured with sweet agave/tree fruit, smooth with a hint of peppery spice. Good but the light profile leaves me craving more. Similar but possibly more depth than Milagro Reposado. Not currently available in Ontario.Taco Farm -
Stephanie’s review says it well. The bourbon, and slight sherry, really shine through and cancel out the rye spice. Rich, slightly burnt caramel, leather, and a hint of sherry sweetness. Better than I expected. An actually good dark Canadian whisky, and at a bargain price. $32 in Ontario.32.0 CAD per BottleGRAND SPIRITS Distillery

Gooderham & Worts Three Grain Little Trinity 17 Year
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed November 22, 2017 (edited April 12, 2021)This has significantly more depth and richness than standard G&W. It’s smooth and sweet to start with rich caramel, vanilla, oak, rye spice notes and a hint of leather. Like standard G&W it’s held back just a bit by it’s dry, slightly bitter finish. It’s still one of, if not the best Canadian whiskies I’ve had. $80 in Ontario.80.0 CAD per Bottle -
Baker's Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 12, 2017 (edited August 17, 2018)Tastes young and underdeveloped. Oak, oversweet toffee, and a ruff burn. Not nearly enough depth to warrant the ABV. Pales in comparison to Bookers, I even prefer Four Roses Single Barrel’s sweet profile. $70 in Ontario.70.0 CAD per BottleDoor FiftyFive
