  • El Dorado 15 Year Rum

    Aged Rum — Guyana

    Smooth with rich plum, woody spice, and sweet caramel, brown sugar and vanilla. It's got an oaked, almost bourbon quality, and it's not too sweet, making it a great whiskey drinker's rum. It's delicious but it's a little too charred/oaked to be my ideal aged rum. $61 in Ontario.

  • Chic Choc Spiced Rum

    Distiller notes say it well. Peppery with rich brown sugar/maple syrup as well as baking spices and a hint of gin botanicals. Not your average spiced rum, in a good way. $32 in Ontario.

    Dark coffee, charred wood, a hint of smoke and a hint of dark fruit sweetness. A little ruff. Decent but not worth $90, in Ontario.

    Fairly smooth. Creamy/very slightly oily. Juniper and floral notes (I can maybe notice the dandelion). Similar quality to Bulldog but not as light/brightly floral. $50 in Ontario.

    Light with very subtle sweetness, citrus/tropical fruit and spice. Not the smoothest white rum but not harsh. $20 in Ontario.

    Very smooth. Definitely sweet but the complexity of flavour balances it out. Butterscotch and plum, raisins, and a hint of tropical fruit. Oak, and gentle baking spices/cinnamon. Equal quality to Zaya Gran Reserva. A little heavier on the baking spices, less tropical fruit. $58 in Ontario.

    Very similar to standard Jameson but a little more robust with a hint of dark fruit sweetness from the sherry. Not quite as smooth, and not nearly as caramelized as Black Barrel. $45 in Ontario.

    Typical Irish whiskey flavour and spice. Light, good but not a lot of complexity. A little ruff. Similar quality to Jameson Crested. Not as smooth or rich as Redbreast 12 Year or Jameson Black Barrel. $60 in Ontario.

    Very similar to the 12 Year. No obvious difference between the two, although I didn't compare them side by side. Not currently available in Ontario. It was over the holidays and I believe it was $100.

    Dark caramelized corn sweetness. Decent flavour but a little thin. Maker's Mark, light as it is, has more body. $40 in Ontario.
