First detection on the nose is honey sweetness and oak. I’m getting some spice. Cinnamon and maybe nutmeg. Apple pie is close at hand. The first sip takes me quickly to the wood and I wonder if I might have missed some initial flavor. But no. I think it’s mostly wood until it begins to finish. I pick up some heat and more of the spices from the aroma. But the apple pie is just a memory now. Vanilla, oak, and some heat hold off to the very end.23.0 USD per BottleBevMo!

Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 8, 2022 (edited April 16, 2022)The nose starts with fruit and some oak. There is cherry but banana is prevalent. The palate gives you banana at the outset but immediately transitions to oak and black pepper. The finish is the pepper to a jalapeño heat. The final final aftertaste, about 30 seconds later, is just the slightest hint of postage stamp. Mouthfeel is slightly oily.19.99 USD per BottleLakes Market & Deli -
Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed April 7, 2022 (edited May 26, 2022)Aromas are wood and bright fruit. Baked apples. Hints of spice to come. Flavors bring all the spice. Cinnamon. Nutmeg. Allspice. Some white pepper. Fruit is still there although well seasoned. And a lot of heat that leaves my lips tingling. -
Aromas are all black jellybean. The flavor is more anise as expected. I tried a couple sips neat. It’s pretty harsh stuff with an aftertaste that tends toward burnt plastic. I added 2 parts water and it mellowed out a lot but still very bitter. I added two more parts water and it was far more drinkable. For the second glass I did the sugar cube thing. Much better. Makes sense to drink it the way it should be drank. Flavors went from harsh fresh picked anise stems to delicious Good ‘N Plenty. Hints of lime now too. No burn left. This goes down easy like this!

Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed April 6, 2022 (edited May 1, 2022)Aromas are similar to a very sweet bourbon. Wood and sugar. Molasses. Dark fruit like black cherry and plum. Baked apples with sugar but minimal cinnamon. Flavors stay sweet up front. Sugar cane and sweet cherry. The sugar remains and turns to a caramelized burnt sugar before the long long fade. -
Aromas are all grain and grass. The grass is green, fresh and sweet. Hints of honey just before that first sip. Flavors are mostly wood and a little smoke. The grass and peat are still present. The honey is not as noticeable. Not too much spice either. The finish is medium to short and the burn is almost non existent.
