Hibiki Harmony Japanese Harmony Master's Select
Blended — Japan
Reviewed January 14, 2021 (edited February 21, 2022)Was treated to this as part of a virtual tasting. This is wonderful. Aroma is of toasted grain. Flavor is bready, smooth grain and the finish is light but complex spice. Spice lingers nicely for quite some time. 3 drops of water brought out a Maple Aroma and oak notes in the flavor were deep and wonderful. Spice notes accentuated. Really enjoy this! -
Knob Creek 12 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 24, 2020 (edited February 28, 2021)I think I need to try this next to Booker's Granny's Batch. I'm thinking they are close. Roasted Peanut heaven with nice spice notes. Moment of Maple a touch of vanilla below the spice. Chocolate notes as well. Several drops of water are mandatory for this one. Really opens everything up. Really a wonderful expression of Knob Creek. -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2020 (edited January 7, 2021)Really enjoy Michter's... The flavor profile reminds me a bit of the Willett line, which I love. A sweet yet spicy Aroma hints to the depth of flavor to come. Flavor bursts of complex spice notes with a nice sweetness layered over top. Cinnamon, a moment of chocolate and a touch of clove. Depth is great. Several drops of water are appropriate and open this nicely. Wonderful in a Manhattan and just as nice neat. -
Sagamore Spirit Cask Strength Straight Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Maryland), USA
Reviewed December 4, 2020 (edited July 15, 2021)OK, I love reviewing whiskeys and sharing my thoughts. Buy this! Buy it now! Stop reading and go to the store! You can read the rest later. Probably my favorite Rye. Has stood up to ALL the heavy hitters (Inc. Thomas Handy) and stands strong 💪. This is an amazing Rye with such horizontal flavor and equal depth and lingering finish. Aroma is a spicy dark cherry with a moment of Maple then a shot of spices. The flavor follows suit and is rich, oily delicious. Pepper, Cinnamon, clove Maple and ABV pop immediately. Very warm (just shy of hot) but appropriate. So deep and then the finish runs and runs.. Are you back from the store yet? I don't care what this average score is. This is amazing. Let me know if you like it.... -
Handy is one of my Favs. I have the opportunity to try this classic vintage... And I'm so happy that I did. I usually don't read other reviews before typing my own. Here, I did review the pro-review posted. It's spot on. Chocolate and spice.. Mexican Hot Chocolate. There is the slightest medicinal note in the Aroma that keeps this from scoring higher. I'm 99% sure I've scored other vintages higher.. Actually needs some drops of water to show you its best. Finish is amazing and lasting. (favorite part)

Bomberger's Declaration (2020 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 22, 2020 (edited August 28, 2021)Bartender suggested this after we had a nice conversation about our favorite Bourbons. My God, I love this and was stunned. Aroma was lovely & deep Brown Sugar Flavor also had the brown sugar notes with coffee and Creme Brule. Amazing finish.. Coffee w/Creme feel as the glass opened and with a few drops of water. I've got to find a bottle of this -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 15, 2020 (edited February 28, 2021)Truly a wonderful Bourbon and one that will punch above its weight class in terms of value (price of $62) Aroma and flavor are so banana bread to me, it's amazing. I know others say Bananas Foster and I can't disagree, but I went to bread. Having said that, definitely brown sugar and melted butter with some cinnamon. At 115 proof it backs some power, but it's warming heat vs "hot". On a cool evening near a fire, I bet this would be a Perfect Cheer.. Frankly, a staple bottle in any Bourbon bar and/or collection. Love it. -
Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels (2019 Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 13, 2020 (edited March 19, 2022)Simply spectacular. What's interesting is that, while I'm a big fan of the AE Rye (Rum Barrel) I'm not a huge fan of the standard Bourbon (Port Barrel) But this is on a different level. Deep sweet vanilla Aroma. Like a Creme Brule note in the Aroma (toasted sugar, vanilla and cream) Some coffee notes with some butterscotch and more vanilla in the flavor. So deep and the finish is fantastic. Several drops of water open this nicely. I will look for this and would openly seek a bottle. You would be wise to do the same! -
Forged Oak 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed November 12, 2020 (edited November 22, 2021)Drank much hotter than the proof. Much oak and apparently a high rye mash bill. Some decent spice, but faded pretty quickly. Glad for two things. 1) I tried it. 2) I didn't have to pay to try it, let alone buy a bottle at the pricing. So this helps me with the lesson that more is not always more. We continue to hear that Bourbon aging at longer than 10-12 can actually pass peak. I'd say this is probably a good example. -
Gloriously Jim Beam in its roasted peanut flavor profile. There's plenty going on here, but I love basking in the peanut brittle goodness. It's so interesting in that the Aroma is even of a can of roasted peanuts and a bit of a dusty element. Few drops of water created a darker toasted peanut flavor. Finish is great. This is truly wonderful.
