Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 14, 2019 (edited August 4, 2019)Nose- The higher proof is certainly noticeable here with a bit of astringency. Then there is brown sugar and dark pit fruit. Plum? Body- Cherry and plum with the brown sugar, sweet tea and classic spiciness of FR small batch. However, there is a richer, thicker mouthfeel and a bit of olive brine. Finish- Surprisingly light but the olive brine lingers a bit. Overall an exciting addition to the line. This is very nice straight and I look forward to trying it in an Old Fashioned. I’m not sure how I feel about the olive brine yet. -
Nose- Green apple and caramel Body- There is a hint of that musty walnut sweetness I get in Blanton’s. However this has more mouth coating sweetness like sweet tea made with agave syrup. Finish-The syrupy sweetness continues into fresh cut grass. And then the green apple comes up at the end. I like this a lot. I was fortunate to find it at the Silver Dollar in Louisville. Unfortunately, it is no longer in production. I like the Silver Dollar a lot. The wait staff was helpful and friendly without being pretentious, a rare quality in a well respected bourbon bar.

Very Old Barton 90 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 13, 2019 (edited September 10, 2020)Nose- Pepper and sweet tea Body- This is a spicy one with black pepper, a bit of cinnamon, and a cherry note. Finish- Herein lies the rub. The dark pit fruit which I like gives way to a bitter aftertaste that I don’t care for. -
Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2018
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 13, 2019 (edited June 15, 2020)"Nose- Dark cherry cordial. Sweet! Amazing nose! Body- Very nice. Lots of cinnamon and baking spices with a caramel flavor/mouthfeel. Finish- Baking spices give way to mint. Similar to the single barrel that we had but with creamier notes. " -
Shenk's Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey

Reviewed July 11, 2019 (edited August 3, 2019)Nose- slight astringent, brown sugar, sweet tea. Body- This is great! Sweet fruit notes, brown sugar, sweet tea, and a bit of apple pie Finish- The sweet tea gives way to a clear and very nice sweet tobacco note. A first for me. Recommended by Jason at Bluegrass Tavern. Shit this is good! -
Rebel Yell 10 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 11, 2019 (edited October 18, 2019)Nose- Brown sugar, cinnamon and baking spices Body- Brown sugar and sweet tea with cinnamon and love coming in later for the tongue tingle. Finish- Tea tannins stay on the tongue and fade to sweet grass. Note- This is a wheater with some serious rye tendencies. I like it.
