Barrell Bourbon Batch 031
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 19, 2022 (edited January 31, 2023)A sweet and easy sipper, feels lightly viscous with confectioners sugar, caramel, hints of fruit and scads of vanilla, a little spice pops in mid palate and rides out the surprisingly long finish to the slightly bitter end. Not at all what I expected from Barrell, but I like it a lot none the less. -
Barrell Bourbon Batch 033
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 16, 2022 (edited February 1, 2023)Very tight and subdued on the nose, gotta really dig to get something beyond a little cinnamon, brown sugar and butterscotch. Supple, silky even on the palate, semisweet, also very subdued with brown sugar, butterscotch, light baking spices, hints of citrus. Finish is long, spicy and warming with butterscotch. Observation based on the first couple pours, I think it has plenty of room to improve with oxidation. -
Barrell Bourbon Batch 032
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 16, 2022 (edited November 25, 2022)Supple, sweet and spicy, initial hit of tropical fruits becomes a mix of apple, strawberry and banana Laffy Taffy. There’s oakiness, caramel, vanilla custard, tobacco, heavily buttered wheat toast, baking spices and faint stone fruits. Long and drying finish with cinnamon, fruit, taffy and oak. Solid, interesting whiskey, I get a little different set of notes with each taste. -

Barrell Rum Private Release
Aged Rum — Jamaica, Barbados, Martinique, Guyana, USA
Reviewed September 8, 2022 (edited September 16, 2022)Not this particular bottle, but didn’t want to start a new entry. My sample bottle is marked “Barrell Rum B602 130” My brief notes: This is fantastic! Love the interplay of the sweet Barbados and the grungy Jamaican rums. Long spicy sweet finish. Superb! I believe that the sample I’m tasting is the “Breaking Bourbon Single Barrel Club pick #19 "Come Together"” from Mash and Grape. Not 100% certain, but the sample is from my buddy in Oregon, the 130 proof matches, and I know he’s partial to M&G. Notes from M&G: “On the nose, sweet gingerbread combines with maple sugar candy and lightly toasted marshmallows. A touch of leather teases in the background. A spicy pop touches down on the tongue, with graham crackers, maple sugar candy, and dark fruit swirling in. Light smoke, creme brulee sweetness, and a hint of butterscotch follow. It finishes with a warming heat emphasized by dark fruit and raisins. The sweetness lingers, leaving behind a delicate brown sugar aftertaste. Clocking in at a whopping 130 proof, this bourbon drinker’s rum is dangerously easy to drink.” I’d say they nailed it. Barrell puts out a ton of product, it can be overwhelming. Previously I’ve held off from purchasing any of their private label rums. After tasting this, I will definitely be exploring more of them. Thanks to @accordingtoben for the sample. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 30, 2022 (edited February 26, 2023)I’m probably rating this higher than it deserves to be, but every time I taste it I just melt, it’s so delicious. Such a great combination of wood, spices and brown sugar, Yum! My enjoyment level of this is top notch, which to me is what it’s all about.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Nice rum notes and not much else on the nose. This proved to be the best feature of this dram. Wow! Blast of spice and heat on the palate with some typical young rye notes. Finish is rather short but full of spice and heat, plus a little bitterness. A generous dose of water tamped the heat down and brought out some general sweetness on the palate but wasn’t really an improvement overall. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the sample.
