Rich cocoa and cinnamon nose. Slightly hot with a subdued sweetness consisting of deep raisin, prune, and dried fig notes. I get cocoa again on the lengthy finish. This is a rich and challenging whisky!

This bourbon is light-bodied with traditional notes of vanilla, caramel, and plentiful cinnamon spice. It seems a bit young but I still found this to be a very enjoyable if somewhat unremarkable whiskey.

This is one warm and assertive whiskey. Burnt turbinado sugar, nutmeg, bread, brown butter, and ample vanilla make this one hell of a treat when you can find it!

This is a straightforward and endearing dram. Big baked apple and pear notes blend with honey and caramel before the sweetness dries out slightly. At this point tobacco, cinnamon, oak, and a little smoke are permitted to creep in. Well-rounded and simple.

For when I can't find Very Old Barton, this is my new go to. For $10-$15 you get a rich, rustic, and full whiskey brimming with roasted corn, oak, vanilla, caramel, char, leather, marzipan, baked apple, cinnamon, and cocoa. Traditional, inexpensive, and well-executed.
