Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 22, 2020 (edited April 3, 2020)Nose leaves a bit to be desired. I can’t pick out many individual notes here. Something similar fresh behind the alcohol. Herbs like mint or really old rosemary. Palate is much better, where the freshness is confirmed with strong black pepper front end and a pepper/herbal/woody back end. Back end reminds me of deer hunting after a stormy night. Dirt, wood and leaves... in a good way. Finish is long and warm. Enjoyable whiskey. -
Peerless Kentucky Straight Rye (24 Months)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 10, 2020 (edited July 13, 2020)Sweet and spicy on the nose. Feels like a mix of wintergreen and spearmint gum. Maybe orange zest. Feels fresh.Spice comes through. Spicy front to back in the mouth with a backing of caramel, vanilla, and sugar that keeps the spice mellow. Very little kick despite 108 proof. Taste lingers after swallow. Smooth and easy to drink but continually brings me back for new flavors, particularly on the nose. Plus, the bottling is gorgeous. I got mine at a steal, $55/bottle for a barrel select. I tasted while there and elected to get 2 bottles. Not sure I’d pay asking for it, but for what I paid, it’d be an instant buy. -
Michter's US*1 American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020 (edited March 26, 2020)Vanilla and maybe brown sugar on the nose, spicy and good kick in the mouth even though it’s only 82 proof. Little bit of pepper on the back end. It lingers. Buttery and slightly maple-y. Smooth but you feel it.
