On the nose, charred oak, crème brûlée, caramelized banana, raisin, brown sugar and vanilla. With some water there’s a sherry cask Scotch character to it. Hot on the palate, with flavors of burnt sugar, wood, molasses, vanilla, dark fruit and bittersweet dark chocolate. Long burnt toast and vanilla finish.

Armagnac — Armagnac, France
Reviewed December 5, 2021 (edited March 10, 2022)On the nose, white wine, chocolate covered cherry, oak, vanilla, pear and crackers. Some hot cinnamon on the palate, with dry wood, white wine and pepper. There’s a tiny bit of sweetness that’s perhaps raisin, fig and caramel, but it’s quite faint. The finish is dry, toasty and woody with touches of chocolate, vanilla, raisin and gunpowder.Total Wine & More -
This has an odd cloudiness that I guess comes from the “accelerated” aging process. Sweet nose of corn, charred oak, plum, toffee, rye and rubber. On the palate strong untreated lumber, with rye, toast and a touch of caramel sweetness. Overall I’m not impressed with the result; it doesn’t seem aged, but rather a mixed bag of immature flavors with wood chips thrown in. The silver lining here is that it’s a great illustration of the fact that, as far as I can tell, you can’t fake a barrel.
