WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed October 6, 2021 (edited October 16, 2021)The nose is a nice mix of wheat and vanilla with a hint of cinnamon and results in a mildly sweet smell. The palette fairly well matches the nose, but with an added kick of heat from some spicy notes. The finish is smoother than expected from the heat of the palette, with only a lingering heat and some slight caramel. -
The nose is overwhelmingly smoky, reminiscent of a barbecue. The palette is warm, rich, and is also dominated by peat and smoke. The finish is pleasantly smooth and leaves a lingering smokiness on the mouth which leads to a very slight fire in the belly. If you like smokey, peaty scotches, you will love this offering from Lagavulin.
