WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed April 17, 2019 (edited August 11, 2019)This is red hots all the way down for me. Some younger ryes that have this characteristic are too sweet and sharp, but this has a nice underlying earthiness below the sweetness. I don't think I'd buy it, but glad I tried it. -
Spotted the last bottle at my local so figured I’d give it a shot. Definitely has the classic Beam nuttiness that you’ll find across the whole portfolio. If anyone has had Little Book I definitely notice some similarities. While that one is a kick in the teeth, this is quite a bit more refined. The sherry influence is really enjoyable, though it’s right up to the line without going over it. Not sure I’d go out of my way to buy it again, but it’s an interesting one to keep around.

Red Spot 15 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed March 17, 2019 (edited March 23, 2021)Where the Yellow Spot is sweet and luscious, the Red brings more complexity. I especially enjoy the influence of the Marsala casks, and the extra few years in the wood are noticeable and enjoyable. Happy St. Paddy’s 2019, everyone!129.0 USD per BottleAlameda Liquor -

I have a bottle of this in my house because my mom loves it. I keep it here for her when my folks visit. In honor of the new Liqueurs/Bitters category I’m tasting this. It is round and nutty. Can definitely detect the almond influence. But it is also incredibly sweet. To me it is liquid marzipan with added sugar. Sorry mom 😬.
