Russell's Reserve 6 Year Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 15, 2020 (edited December 1, 2022)Great easy drinker if you like ryes. Not a big noticeable nose on this one. I got a little bit of white grapes, and a new box of earl grey tea. The palate is great. Nothing too powerful like a higher proofed rye, but there is definite clove, mint, chai tea, and the spice part of Dr Pepper. The finish is much like the palate. Would make a great old fashioned. -
Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon 100 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 14, 2020 (edited December 11, 2020)By far one of the best KY bourbons for $20 or less. Nose has sweet vanilla, fresh cut lumber, M&M’s (just the shell). Palate is sweet wheat, flea market roasted nuts, kisses from your hot cousin (don’t fool yourself, you know you’ve thought about it), and some toffee. Finish is sweet and easy (insert mom joke here). This really is a decent bourbon. You can’t hardly beat it for the money, plus if you’re into mixers, it turns regular coke into a good’er version of Vanilla Coke. -
I am a man now. This is the way. This cask strength beast is the benchmark of sophistication. Pretty sure Sean Connery drank a bottle of this every day whilst filming “The Rock”. The nose is a peat smokey salty lemon. The palate has plenty of medicinal peat, semi sweet citrus notes, wood off an old pirate ship, and leather from a brand new pair Dr. Martens. The finish has the peat smoke still with some sweet herbal tea. I should go buy a 3 piece suit. Or maybe a 3 piece chicken dinner.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 4, 2020 (edited November 14, 2020)Outstanding. Never would’ve guessed the proof on this one. Incredibly smooth. I let it breathe for 5 minutes first. Nose is apple pie served in a candy dish made of oak. Palate delivers caramel, toasted vanilla marshmallow, cooked fruit. Finish has more of the cooked apple flavor with a pleasant rye spice. -
A lot like Blanton’s. Same mash bill. Enough rye to give it some complexity. It’s sweet throughout. Sweet cream and whiskey soaked fruit on the nose. Palate shows that some of the fruit were raisins. Baking spice and oak to follow. Finish is very similar to the palate with a little tinge of lingering rye.

Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 3, 2020 (edited January 1, 2021)Really good. A lot of heat on the initial pallet. But none on the finish. It’s crazy. Let it breathe for a bit before you dive in.
