Bardstown Bourbon Co. Château de Laubade Armagnac Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed October 18, 2022 (edited November 18, 2022)Nose: musty, dusty, grapes. Generally subdued nose. Palate: wonderful. Roller coaster of flavors, each second that passes has a new wave. It’s sweet, but not overly bourbon, it’s oaky, but not overly tannin, and it’s complex but in waves, not all at once. Tobacco and leather mixed with the Armagnac casks. Finish is enticing and lingers. -
Leopold Bros. Three Chamber Bottled in Bond Rye (Collector's Edition)
Rye — Colorado , USA
Reviewed October 18, 2022Funky, funky nose. Bready, malty, elderflower, damp, moldy, earthy, with spice and mint in the finish. Well done and unique. If I’m in the mood to focus on flavors, I’d go to this one. Absolutely respect the uniqueness. The Campbeltown of the US. I think there’s a lot of tails in this, some wet cardboard. -
Nose: Odd and somewhat off putting. Perhaps it’s butter? Or something vegetal? It’s difficult to identify but I don’t particularly like it. Palate: Astringent and that similar unidentified flavor is present. Some sweetness comes through, but the palate is mild. Finish: Short. Mouthfeel is light and watery. Still not sure what the flavor here is. Not sure if ill have this again even though the bottle was a gift. I’d be curious to know what/how the distiller does his/her cuts because it’s borderline tasting like too much tails.

Revisiting a common scotch. One of the first drams that started me on my whisky journey. Nose: Fairly subdued. White grapes, nuts, honey - but all quiet and in the background. Palate: A piece of bread dipped in honey and olive oil. Rich and mouth filling. Finish: Casks. Both the bourbon and the sherry casks shine through. Vanilla, oak, and sweet wine apricot lingers. If you’re going to market and name your whisky after the casks, you’d expect to feel the influence of the casks - and they certainly provide that.

Nose: Syrup burning on the coals of an extinguished beach campfire. Just a lovely, complex nose. Sweetness and salty peat competing for your taste buds. Palate: Fairly forgettable palate unfortunately. Watery mouthfeel. Finish: Wonderful smoke and peat. Nose is wonderful, palate is disappointing, and finish is okay.
