Tastes

To me this is the quintessential Irish whiskey. This is the whiskey a friend gave me to introduce me to whiskey. Now it is the whiskey by which I compare other drams. It seems to have a little bit of everything... smoothness, fruit, light smoke, char. Perfectly balanced with nothing overpowering. A guaranteed quality sip.

Think of this more like a maple bacon liqueur. Nose is overwhelmed with maple syrup flavor, leaving little room for smoky afterthoughts. On the tongue immediately hits a sweet maple syrup liqueur which moves to an overcooked burned bacon in the back of the mouth. The sweetness holds in the mouth for a short time before dissipating.

I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. Found it in the clearance rack at a liquor store near my parent’s house. I saw it had a good review so figured I would give it a try. Overall very pleasant. Wonderful smooth, sweet, fruity flavors. It finished off with a nice oaky note and a spiciness to remind you there alcohol included. A nice sipper.

Being a huge fan of the Redbreast 12, I finally tried the 15 year. Certainly taste the stronger oak flavors, and the bite of the higher ABV. Not quite as smooth as the 12 in my opinion, but with the higher ABV that can be expected. Still a great selection.
