Tastes

Reviewing again and independently arrived at the same 3.75 score. A bit of a mindfuck as this amaro has some very clear alpine traits, while also displaying a very prominent blueberry base. I am not fully convinced that the flavours hang together, but it is definitely unique and intriguing.

Unique amaro given its grappa base. The grappa does shine through, but there is also some strong sweet orangepeel notes at play. Less herbal than most amari.

Revisiting and still loving this one. That thyme/rosemary finish is beguiling.

Quintessential alpine amaro with some pleasant menthol notes. But this one does not veer too far down the minty path and has a great caramel base with some orangepeel and subtle rhubarb. Combines the best of different amaro styles.

Delicious. Notes of gentian, rhubarb and juniper. Slight citrus kick. Sweeter mid-palate with a firmly bitter finish, but well within balance.

Big orange citrus notes on the nose and palate. Sweet upfront but with a delightful herbal finish with notes of thyme. A bit light, but very nuanced.

Smells orange citrusy and sweet. Also tastes like sweet orange upfront and I was worried that this would essentially just be more expensive triple sec. But there is some delightful cola-esque notes in the finish. Maybe like a sweet chinotto? Perhaps that is what bergamot tastes like.

Beautiful balance between the gentian and star anise notes. A little bit of citrus (lemon peel) as well. Bright and refreshing; a truly unique amaro that I'd rank up there with the best from Italy.

I think that I expected this liqueur to be something that it's not. I was envisioning smoked tobacco, but the taste here is raw tobacco. Reminds me of chewing tobacco; it has this gummy type sweetness. Very novel and not a bad drink, I was just hoping for some smoke.

I can see this being an acquired taste, but it is right up my alley. Remarkably pungent smell of truffle. Strong truffle flavour as well (albeit not as strong as it smells). A bit of onion character as well (in the best way possible). The mid-palate has some cola-esque sweetness and the finish a hint of alpine character. Really quite special.
