Cognac Park Borderies Mizunara Oak Finish
Cognac — Borderies, France
Reviewed February 16, 2021 (edited July 30, 2022)My first mizunara aged/finished spirit. Nose: sandalwood and vanilla sweet, warming spices. Floral. Little bit of acetone. Spiky. Later on the nose got less spiky, more floral and sweet, more friendly for me. Palate: instant creamyness, floral, pungent spicy, sweet, some oaky dryness. Aftertaste: very short intesive finish, then very faint sweetness and tartness and spices for longer period of time. Extra: glass had wonderful smell on next morning. (I always keep glasses covered for few additionsl days just to smell every now and then)Maglód -

Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 18, 2021 (edited February 2, 2021)Nose: sherry (nuts, orange zest), honey sweetness, warming spices. Palate: immediate soft spices, sweetness, spices get more dominant at the end but still far from being strong. Finish: short. A bit weak for my taste. Nuts, spices. Somewhat watery. Little dryness. Almond. Good sipping stuff, but boring.Maglód -
Nose: immediately sherry notes but not really a sherry bomb, cinnamon, vanilla sweetness, for 2nd sip kind of banana notes. Macallan 12 Double Cask is more sherried, this one is more tart, oaky. Palate: changes a lot, starts sweet then spices become more dominant. The Macallan has more active spiciness from the beginning also more nutty. Finish: pungent, fresh spices, dark chocolate dryness. Shorter than the Macallan 12 Double Cask. With water: more sweet on nose and finish also. I prefer the Macallan from these two, more sherry less oak.Maglód

Chivas Regal 18 Year Gold Signature
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed January 5, 2021 (edited July 11, 2022)Nose: friendly, mild spices, vanilla sweetness, orchard fruits. Slightly floral. Palate: balanced, mouth covering sweetness and spices evolving together. Almond. Spices and dryness getting dominant for subsequent sips. Finish: long, oaky, chocolate, nuts. Overall, well balanced, complex, nice dram, but I am missing a bit more character. I agree with S4D member, who said "I like more whisky in my whisky" in their review.Maglód -
Nose: sherry bomb, honey, fruity (plum, orange, strawberry), rubbery. Cinnamon. At half bottle I started to smell mainly sulphury notes, like burnt match. Palate: smooth, fruity sweet (raisin), then ginger. Finish: dry, nutty (walnut), sweet. Little bit spiky at end of tongue/beginning of throat. Because of the nose and palate changes at half bottle I reduced rating.Maglód

Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed December 28, 2020 (edited March 2, 2021)Nose: vanilla first, then biscuity, raisins, warming spices. Gets spiky easily, when I inhaled bit more deeply. Sometimes very fruity (citrus juice, orange marmelade). Roasted grain. Palate: more friendly, starts sweet, fruity then warming spices getting dominant, bit tart at the end. Creamy texture. Finish: medium, dry, cloves, nuts. I enjoyed the palate and finish more than the nose, due to the spikyness on the nose. Watering it down helped to soften it on the nose. Really complex stuff. Tasting vs Green Spot. Green Spot is much more fruity, Powers is more earthy, leathery. On palate more oaky, more spicy.Maglód
