Lindores Abbey The Exclusive Cask 2018/0386
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 2, 2023 (edited August 8, 2023)Nose: Incredible aroma of apple cider or calvados, vanilla, conference pear and subtle baking spices. Palate: Nice full, creamy mouthfeel. Lightly stewed apples with sweet cinnamon and brown sugar. Some vanilla cream adds to the ensemble. Finish: Packs a bit of heat at first but it dampens down after the first sip. Gentle oak spice that melts away leaving a beautiful finish of apple crumble and custard. The bourbon influence on this is very prominent and delicious. It carries the typical bourbon notes but without the heavy oak. I was worried about the ABV at first but it's surprisingly light. It's easily the best whisky I've had to date. -
Nose: Wood. Sweet, dried red fruits. Maple syrup. Palate: Light and thin body. Raisins. Some very subtle jamaican ginger cake notes or maybe soreen cake. Finish: Gentle barrel wood. Developing baking spices. The aftertaste is that of a tawny port with a tannic dryness. I wasn't sold on this at first but it got a little more complex in a short amount of time. It's easy to dismiss this as cheap swill but it has its place.

Nose: Sweet peat and salty brine. Cracked black pepper. Some light cereal notes. Palate: Sweet and jammy straight off the bat. Stone fruit and icing sugar. Tastes like a sweetened lapsang souchong black tea. Finish: The sweet smoke lingers on with sticky stone fruit jam and the black tea notes wander in and out.

The flavour of sea air and milk chocolate digestive biscuits. Finish: An initial musty woody spice that melts into a spicy sweet chocolate covered ginger. Dry with a slight aspirin finish. A stone fruit flavour appears on the aftertaste. -
Nose: Big dried pineapple presence. Sultanas. A sweet wood note. Some bakers spices. Palate: Stewed sticky orchard fruits. The spices come through a bit more. Sweet cinnamon bark. Finish: Warming spicy finish. Some raw chocolate comes through. The dried fruit sherry cask flavours are the main influence on the finish.

Deanston 12 years old 2007 Calvados Cask Finish
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed April 21, 2023Nose: Stewed apples, floral, light honey notes, fresh cut green apples on the high notes. Palate: Loads of cooked apple and brown sugar. Finish: An instant developing spice heat. The apples roam around as an aftertaste and just wont let go. Notes: Drinks much lighter than its ABV. -
Nose: Diluted antiseptic, sweet smoke, pear skin, stewed apple. Retro gives off some briny qualities. Palate: Rich and slightly thick mouthfeel. Some oak wood spice. A touch of cashew. Finish: Good length with flavours of pork sausage and sweet BBQ smoke, dried fruits like sultanas. Drinks like a lower ABV whiskey but in a good way. The peat and sherry are quite nicely balanced. It won't excite those looking for a peat or sherry bomb but it ticks the box for anyone that enjoys those flavours.
