Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 1, 2014 (edited October 12, 2017)A light and fruity nose along with honey and citrus. The sweetness carries over onto the palate delivering oak, cinnamon and fruit. As it finishes, the palate is left with black pepper, cinnamon spice and oak. A good dessert whisky. Paired with pumpkin pear cobbler, buckwheat crumbs, cracker jack gelato, butterscotch bacon and sage. [85/100][Tasted: 9/18/14 @ Whisky on the Hudson; 1/31/16 @ Eat Mosaic] -
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 Amontillado Cask Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 25, 2014 (edited August 5, 2017)Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : On first nosing, I got the sweet peatiness/smoke (reminds me of applewood bacon) and hint of citrus. That same profile carries over onto the palate, rich and full. A nice, long, balanced, oaky, dry finish. I recall enjoying this very much and need to get a bottle to get a more accurate tasting. Repetition is the only way to get something right. -
Ichiro's Malt Chichibu The First
Single Malt — Japan
Reviewed September 21, 2014 (edited November 27, 2015)Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : This is my first taste of Japanese whiskey and wasn't sure what to initially expect. I found the nose to have a fruity sweetness with some butter hints. The whiskey on the palate hit me with a sweet, light plum profile. The texture was extremely thin and felt like it was watered down. I sadly found this to finish with almost nothing. A disappointingly bland finish. I was hoping for a rich, fruity sweetness dram. When calculating the cost of the dram or bottle into to the score, then this gets 1 star. -
Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed September 21, 2014 (edited October 9, 2020)This opens with banana, rum, brown sugar, straw (which may be seemingly metallic) and tropical fruit (pineapple and coconut) on the nose. Those same notes carry onto the palate, which is light-bodied and soft with a bit of yeastiness packed with a bite. A brown sugar-sweet, soft finish that is slightly spicy, dry and oakey. A good Irish whiskey which is enhanced from the higher alcoholic content at an excellent price point. This should be the Irish Whiskey staple than the standard Jameson or Bushmills. Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed September 21, 2014 (edited December 3, 2017)Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : Sweetness of banana on the nose is what I picked up. Creamy palate with drying oak tannins. This finishes quickly leaving black pepper spicey finish. 3.5 stars. -
Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited January 23, 2020)As this breathes, toffee, caramel, sweet tea, honey, malty-vanilla sweetness arrive on the nose. Sea salt and oak can be discerned, however faint. Very enticing bouquet and can inhale this all day. The longer it breathes, the sweeter the nose. A medium bodied dram with honey, vanilla and caramel sweetness and tropical fruits that find its way on the palate. Traces of milk chocolate swirl around the body. The sweetness slowly fades and finishes to an oaky dryness that is slightly bitter dashed with a sprinkle of white pepper. When water is added, the dryness is lessened and the sweetness enhanced. The creaminess and spiciness gets diminished as well. An extremely enjoyable dram where malt, vanilla, honey and oak are the center of attention. Very well balanced. Excellent price point. Perfect for sharing, with and without water. I picture myself on the upper deck of the beach house enjoying yet another August sunset with good friends and conversation taking in the horizon and maritime air. Another beach house scotch? Knappogue Castle 14 Year Twin Wood
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited March 18, 2021)I was able to locate a bottle and add to collection and opened this St. Pattys weekend. Tropical fruits (coconut and pineapples), brown sugar, vanilla deliver a nose of sweetness and draw you in for your taste. The sugary sweetness carries over into the palate and slowly transforms through the tropical and finally lands of the spice and oak. The spiciness crescendos rapidly and the palate is left slightly dry and oaky. Tasted this right after sampling the 12 year sibling. The texture has the same creamy feel on the palate. However, the fruity and sherry sweetness differentiated from the 12 year old. Adding an ice cube or drop of water totally changed this dram and the sweetness was greatly accentuated taking this to the next level. I enjoyed this greatly over ice and recommend sipping it only over ice. [$57][88/100][Opened: 3/20/16][Tasted: 3/17/21][Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/14]57.0 USD per Bottle
