Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed September 21, 2014 (edited October 9, 2020)This opens with banana, rum, brown sugar, straw (which may be seemingly metallic) and tropical fruit (pineapple and coconut) on the nose. Those same notes carry onto the palate, which is light-bodied and soft with a bit of yeastiness packed with a bite. A brown sugar-sweet, soft finish that is slightly spicy, dry and oakey. A good Irish whiskey which is enhanced from the higher alcoholic content at an excellent price point. This should be the Irish Whiskey staple than the standard Jameson or Bushmills. Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited January 23, 2020)As this breathes, toffee, caramel, sweet tea, honey, malty-vanilla sweetness arrive on the nose. Sea salt and oak can be discerned, however faint. Very enticing bouquet and can inhale this all day. The longer it breathes, the sweeter the nose. A medium bodied dram with honey, vanilla and caramel sweetness and tropical fruits that find its way on the palate. Traces of milk chocolate swirl around the body. The sweetness slowly fades and finishes to an oaky dryness that is slightly bitter dashed with a sprinkle of white pepper. When water is added, the dryness is lessened and the sweetness enhanced. The creaminess and spiciness gets diminished as well. An extremely enjoyable dram where malt, vanilla, honey and oak are the center of attention. Very well balanced. Excellent price point. Perfect for sharing, with and without water. I picture myself on the upper deck of the beach house enjoying yet another August sunset with good friends and conversation taking in the horizon and maritime air. Another beach house scotch? Knappogue Castle 14 Year Twin Wood
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited March 18, 2021)I was able to locate a bottle and add to collection and opened this St. Pattys weekend. Tropical fruits (coconut and pineapples), brown sugar, vanilla deliver a nose of sweetness and draw you in for your taste. The sugary sweetness carries over into the palate and slowly transforms through the tropical and finally lands of the spice and oak. The spiciness crescendos rapidly and the palate is left slightly dry and oaky. Tasted this right after sampling the 12 year sibling. The texture has the same creamy feel on the palate. However, the fruity and sherry sweetness differentiated from the 12 year old. Adding an ice cube or drop of water totally changed this dram and the sweetness was greatly accentuated taking this to the next level. I enjoyed this greatly over ice and recommend sipping it only over ice. [$57][88/100][Opened: 3/20/16][Tasted: 3/17/21][Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/14]57.0 USD per Bottle -

anCnoc 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited January 25, 2020)Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : Light lemon and honey nose and that carries over onto the palate. Medium light body that finishes oaky with drying tannins. This is a good everyday dram. Not dynamic or flashy. -
Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : Citrus and pepper on the nose. Creamy texture with the pepper spice on the palate. Medium length black peppery finish. This would be good over ice or as a mix. I enjoyed their 'American Whiskey' spirit which I will add a review when that becomes available on this site.

Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 20, 2014 (edited November 17, 2019)Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/2014 : Fruity, citrusy (grapefruit?) and vanilla. Extremely light or thin on the palate with the sweetness. So light, in fact, that it gives the impression of being watered down, but it's not. Perfect for summer sipping on those hot, humid days. Great for introducing someone to scotch. Simple, easy and enjoyable. Next beach house scotch? Maybe. [$59]59.0 USD per Bottle -
Good whisky, good conversation with business associate with Cohiba's and this 18 year old. A light, sweet nose with a touch of peat and floral. Lacks the signature peat of Laphroaig. That sweetness carries onto the palate with a hint of oak and drying tannins. Very little smoke. Extremely well balanced and enjoyable. The maturity has tamed the younger version making this a easy sipping Laphroig. [90/100][Whisky on the Hudson 9/18/14; Houston 7/14/16]
