Uncle Nearest 1856 Tennessee Whiskey (Sourced Whiskey)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 21, 2019 (edited April 10, 2020)Full-flavored bourbon. Not overly spicy or hot but just enough to keep you interested. Classic bourbon flavors, but not a heavy oak bourbon. Dense and sweet with a bit of mid-palate all-spice and cinnamon. Soft on the tongue with an initial sweetness, but then immediately drys out the mouth and goes into a really nice finish. Not super chewy on the finish, but enough to where you can hold onto the flavors for a minute. If I'm trying to be nitpicky you can kinda pull out a varnish note, but overall it's so well blended that the entire dram works cohesively together and is enjoyable all the way through. -
A very enjoyable ride. It starts sweet on the tongue, very soft at first, almost feels like it's gonna let you down, but then it builds into this mid-palate character of dry oak, brown sugar, light cherry, continuously building spice until it almost feels hot, but then finishes with a long lingering soft oak and baking spice. It leaves the mouth dry. I can see how people think this is boozy, but if you like a strong bourbon, this will not be challenging at all. It's good.
