Little Book Chapter 5: The Invitation
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2021 (edited November 30, 2022)NOSE Coppery herbal, caramel, hay, honied graham cracker, touch of olde candy, overripe fruit and peanuts. I feel a similarity in delivery to Book 1, but this is a bit darker. More peanuts and copper as it opens/with water. PALATE Oak, copper, caramel icing, herbal spice, leather, hazelnuts, peanut brittle and bits of overripe fruit, vanilla candy and leather. A bit dry and tannic on its delivery, but everything about what’s delivered is nice. FINISH Long -> Herbal spice, caramel, oak all fade -
Wonderland Blend of Straight Whiskeys Cask Strength
Blended American Whiskey — Michigan, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2021NOSE Lemony copper, herbal baking spice, vanilla taffy and a light pop of oak. Without water I’m not getting much out of the aroma. With water I’m getting a bit more wood and dried fruit… but only just. PALATE Lemony metal, tannic craft wood, dried fruit, stale spice and some odd herbal notes. Water is this whiskey’s enemy. Adding it shoots that tannic craft wood note right to the top and all I end up tasting is that woody note and the metallic lemon note. FINISH Med-long -> Crafty wood and metallic lemon. -

American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2021 (edited February 16, 2022)NOSE Oak, Riesen candy, caramel, dried dark fruit, baking spice (anise, clove, cinnamon), citrus peels and hazelnuts. Aroma is weighty and crawls through the nasal passages on legs of spice and sweets with a body of oak. PALATE Oak, Riesen, cinnamon red hots, coffee, dried dark fruit, leather, baking spice and hazelnuts. Similar structure and profile as the aroma, but a bit fuller and richer. FINISH Med-long -> Oak, Riesen, cinnamon red hots, coffee and spice. -
NOSE Oak, caramel corn, vanilla fondant, dried dark fruit, leather, roasted nuts and some citrus peels and baking spice. The aroma is quite warm and full with an even pairing of sweet and earthy notes. PALATE Oak, caramel corn, vanilla fondant, honey, dried dark fruit, leather, roasted nuts, baking spice and some hints of citrus peels and cocoa. In essence, it’s the same as the aroma but with some added, darkly sweet, notes of honey and cocoa. FINISH Med-long -> Oak, baking spice, and dried cherries fade out to caramel and spice.

NOSE Oak, caramel, roasted nuts, vanilla pudding, copper, corn bread, honey, dried dark fruit and some baking spice. This is what I’m talking about, this is Old Forester bourbon. PALATE Oak, caramel, roasted nuts, vanilla pudding, copper, corn bread, honey, dried dark fruit and some baking spice and farmy notes. Carbon copy of the aroma with a slight addition of some grainy/farmy notes peeking through towards the end. FINISH Long -> Oak, cocoa, baking spice, dried dark fruit and copper fades dryly to a grainy/farmy quality.
