Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2022 (edited April 11, 2022)Aroma - honey, pepper, apple, cherries, cloves, spices of cinnamon and even dash of nutmeg. Really nice aroma. Taste - Man.. this is ridiculously smooth. Mouthfeel is quite thin. But taste solid.. really nice oak profile. Little touch of smoke on the finish with a hint of red hot/cinnamon.. Definitely getting an earthy/ nutty note mid palate. Overall - like most Michter offerings, this one does not justify the price point. Aroma is fantastic, taste solid, mouthfeel and finish is lacking. Drinks closer to $70-80 bottle in my honest opinion -
Castle & Key Restoration Rye 2021 (Batch 1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 6, 2022 (edited April 7, 2022)Aroma - orange peel, oak, brown sugar, hint of rye. Pretty straight forward Taste - lots of citrus notes on this lemon definitely comes to mind. Some orange peel here and vanilla.. very slight hint of rye. This is definitely unique and more on the sweeter side -
Sagamore Spirit 'Sagamore Reserve' Double Oak Rye (2017 Limited Edition Release)
Rye — (bottled in) Maryland, USA
Reviewed April 1, 2022 (edited August 17, 2022)Aroma - Holy brown sugar and cherry juice. Even a slight hint of prune juice. Damn.. as this thing opens, it’s getting even more intriguing. Huge dark fruits, molasses. I’m getting almost no oak but tons of vanilla. Yeah..this is nose is quite the experience. I have no idea what to expect on the palate. Taste - Tobacco, black tea, vanilla, oak, cherries up front.. mid palate is slight hint of bubblegum and cinnamon… the finish is where this one shines.. it’s extremely long finish. And the transitions that your palate experiences is crazy. The finish for me starts off with a vanilla and oak profile. The oak almost creates this dry aspect for a fleeting moment but then its a transitions to luxarado cherry and dashes of rye spices and smoke. Overall - This is the perfect bottle for those bottle shares, family events or even that Friday night pour. It is incredible unique, the bottle design is elegant, it’s not overly spicy and has a long finish. -
Middle West Spirits Dark Pumpernickel Rye
Rye — Ohio, USA
Reviewed April 1, 2022 (edited July 9, 2022)Aroma - this is quite nice. I’ve never had pumpernickel bread so I have no idea what that is supposed to smell like. Big caramel, toffee, and apple notes, ginger bread. I’m finding this to have more sweet notes than those traditional rye notes (i.e. cinnamon, mint, etc). There is the slight baking spices note reminding me of a Fall candle. Some darker fruits are coming through as it opens up. Again, this is nice. Really liking this complexity. Taste - Man. First thing that jumps out as me is the viscosity. Really damn good. Wish the finish was a tad longer but its still solid. As for the flavors, I’m getting an interesting bread note which I can only guess is that pumpernickel. Very unique and I actually find this very intriguing. There’s a slight bubblegum note on the finish with just a dash of cinnamon, and baking spices. The nose is far more complex that the palate. But that is fine because the balance here is really really good. Overall- this is definitely a must have on hand. It’s so unique, drinks like a bourbon lovers rye. Found it for $35.. normally goes for $40… drinks closer to $45-$50 range. 4.35 -
NULU Toasted Single Barrel Rye
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed March 28, 2022 (edited July 7, 2022)Aroma - grapes and cherries, Black pepper, leather, finished wood, corn, vanilla cream, orange peel. Quite interesting, above average complexity. Really dont know what to expect. But not picking up a ton of rye. Taste - Dang. That’s quite good. Molasses and brown sugar for days. Very dessert-like. The sweet sugar notes do give way to chocolate covered oranges with hints of cinnamon to cut the sweet notes. Again, the rye is very subtle. This has to be a low rye mashbill. Not picking up a ton here on the palate either. Decent mouth feel. More of a bourbon lovers rye in my opinion. -
Aroma - red hots, toasted marshmallow is major player here. Really love this marshmallow note. Corn, dark candied fruits, caramel, orange citrus. Really nice Taste- big oak, cinnamon and dark fruits again… creamy vanilla finish. Corn again. Overall - the smell is fantastic but the taste is just slightly above average. At the price point, this is a strong do not recommend for me. It drinks closer to a $70-80 bottle.

Smooth Ambler Founders' Cask Strength Series Rye (2021 Edition)
Rye — West Virginia , USA
Reviewed March 16, 2022 (edited April 14, 2022)Batch 1 Aroma - Right off the bat. I’m liking this. Lots of depth here. Massive oak and rye. Sugar candies, brown sugar, orange peel, pepper and spices. Theres another fruity aspect here but I cannot quite pin point it. Does not smell like a 5 year whiskey. If I was doing this blind, I would guess around the 8-9 year mark. Really robust and bold. Hoping that the taste follows suit. Taste - Well.. this is tremendous. Very complex. Just an incredible balance between sweet caramel and vanilla then a rush of huge rye spice, cinnamon. There’s a deep dark tone to it.. leather, oak, black tea is definitely noticeable. Overall - this one checks all the boxes for me. Aroma and Taste are outstanding. The finish is long.. the viscosity is great, syrup like. Damn fucking good. -
Elijah Craig Single Barrel Barrel Proof Bourbon (Private Label)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 14, 2022 (edited February 8, 2023)132 Proof / 66.00% 9 years Serial #6284597 Rick: MM Floor 7 Aroma - big vanilla note and dark fruits up front. Sweet honey and oak balance nicely in the middle and just a hint of pepper and cinnamon way in the back. As it opens up, I’m getting a smokey barbecue note. Honestly reminds me of smoked chicken and pineapple. Really bizarre yet very intriguing. The more I smell this the more the aroma grows on me. At first I wasn’t sure, but I’m picking up quite of bit of complexity the more it opens. Taste - Holy F that was a beastly first sip. Extremely effing hot first sip. (I love high proof stuff but this one took me by surprise ) Really enjoying this long finish though… super sticky. I almost got nothing on that first sip.. just straight heat. Proceeding sips - the usuals come through (oak and vanilla). Smoke, Caramel, slight hint of honey and baking spices. Finish is slight herbal tea and more of that sweet caramel and honey. Very very sweet lingering long finish to be honest. Adding few drops of water - getting lots orange peel and citrus notes. Which I did not find originally. More vanilla popping through now too. Finish isn’t as sweet and long as it was when I drank it neat. It’s transitioned to more of a musty oak and cinnamon. Overall - It’s a bit all over the place for me. Not sure what to really think of it. Wish I had an ECBP proof to compare it against. Will revisit this when/if I do against a standard release. -
George Dickel x Leopold Bros Collaboration Blend (2021 Release)
Rye — USA
Reviewed March 12, 2022 (edited December 3, 2022)Aroma- insanely complex. Absolutely massive Cinnabon… Big rye, bubblegum, luxardo cherries, bananas and Graham cracker…. black berry jam… Just tons of sweet notes. Now I’m getting a massive fruity cereal aroma … Again… The vanilla frosting is massive. There a flora aspect that is aggressive as well… Every time I get my nose in the glass, a new element comes forward. Very nice. Geez this is outstanding. Top 2-3 best aromas I’ve experienced on a whiskey. Taste- man, the smoothness on this is off the charts. Complexity is still profound here. Sweet notes again for days. Unlike any other rye I’ve had. Apple pie crust, vanilla, cinnamon, those amazing luxardo cherries coming through again .. massive Creamy finish. I originally gave this a 4.5 (4.65) on my intial review…it deserves 4.75 The finish lacking… but complexity is incredible
