Mister Sam Blended Whiskey (2021 Release)
Other Whiskey — Montreal, Multiple Countries
Reviewed October 8, 2022 (edited January 13, 2024)Wow. Wow. Wow. Sometimes a whiskey comes along and makes you question the origins of life. A gentle swirl in a glencairin glass leaves a ring that just doesn’t want to fall down. On the nose: graham cracker, banana, then dark fruits, cherry, fig, raisin. Front pallet: licorice, not too sweet, slight baking spices like cinnamon and candy peanuts. Mid pallet brings in those dark fruits, chocolate cherries, pencil shavings, dill and pepper. Chordal cherries, orange marmalade, marshmallow? Some jammy fig, slight char on the exhale. Finish goes on and on, roller coaster of flavors again, fading in and out. Dry oak tannins, more dark fruit, slight rye pepper, but everything is so a balanced. A few drops of water brings out more of the rye spice, some candy bubble gum, chocolate pecans. Caramel and some cinnamon vanilla. A mayville masterpiece. Why cannot all whiskey taste like this? This brings up questions like 1) what does cask strength pappy taste like. 2) how does it taste when you mix a barrel Larue with GTS and 1/2 barrel of sazerac cask strength? 3) is OFC a honey barrel of GTS? 4) to name these barrels as this or that doesn’t happen until it’s bottled, what could these be but just simply amazing? Thank you Mayville and Sazerac for all that you do and then to share it! -
Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye Recipe Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 8, 2022Very smooth and oily. Nose has a slight minty tone, sweet corn Sweet upfront with bubble gum candy, this fades to slight dill and pepper, subtle baking spices of nutmeg and all spice. Some chocolate notes in the finish with turns into pepper on the back pallet, great body to it. Long finish with a slight hint of oak. But not overly so. Perfect dram for a cool fall evening b -
Single barrel 131 proof, Wyatt’s selection Batch 26, bottle # 29 Nose of corn and rye spices like dill and spearmint Not sweet nor tasting of the proof. Lots of licorice and fennel. Coats the mouth well, oily, medium length finish that’s not too dry. Some chocolate and peanut comes through as well. When cut with some water, most becomes grassy in a good way. Some cherry on the pallet.

Medium bodied but coats the tongue nicely, some graham cracker and pepper on the back pallet, but can’t get past the strong cherry flavor. Would love to know what this is like at BP. -
