Bunnahabhain 12 Year

Beautiful on the nose. Very fruity. Palate is rich and smooth with a medium to long finish. Hard to find but will always have a spot on my shelf

With all of the COVID lockdown restrictions, I've missed tasting and reviewing drams outside of my four walls at home. Taking some vacation time away from routine is sorely needed! Visiting the only whisky bar in the rural area I'm in is a must. Bunnahabhain 12 is double matured in ex bourbon and ex sherry casks. This Northern Islay dram is non chill filtered with no added colour (its rich golden colour dazzles au naturale!). The nose is lush and sweet. I can smell honey and orange molasses. Freshly torched crème brûlée and light herbal mustiness waft in. As I sip Bunnahabhain 12, red fruit sweetness pairs with ascending pepper that feels electric for my tongue. Slightly bitter tannins transition to tangy brine. Warm toffee and vanilla finish together with oak and comforting earthiness. I enjoy how the spice keeps you on your toes with a grounding nature that keeps you coming back for more. 7.75/10

When you bite into a chocolate truffle and discover that it’s filled with whisky infused burnt caramel. A pleasant enough surprise but better when you’re prepared for it.

Nose. Light smoke, a hint of salted caramel, leather, sherry. Palate. Fruit and nut chocolate, brine and vanilla. There’s a malty quality and Sherry influence. Finish. Medium-long, woody spice and some smoky warmth. Really decent drink at this price.

I definitely get fudge and butterscotch on the nose with a little hint of alcohol smell. Just the right amount of warming sensation as it goes down.
