Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack

Oh my... Gentleman Jack is no gentleman. He's more like a charming sociopath who lures you in, only to then put you in a compromising situation. From the get-go you're not sure whether you like this or don't - there's hints of great oak charring with a touch of maple syrup, only to then be off-put by overripe banana. The palate has that additional element of vanilla, which works really well until you encounter that damned overripe banana again. It just doesn't work! The finish is light and smooth, and I can see how some people would adore this whiskey. I'm just not one of those people.

Better than I thought it would be.

Nose: sweet over-ripe banana, some artificial vanilla, dull horseradish, stewed carrot or parsnip. Palate: more vegetal notes, weak honey, hint of charcoal. Finish: good length, strong buttered bread note, some sharp menthol, gentle lingering cinnamon. Sampled at a friend's casual tasting party, a surprisingly decent pour, but mostly uninspiring. I can only echo the opinion of others; this is what the standard (revolting) Jack Daniel's SHOULD be. Dry glass: faint oak and sourdough.
