Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year

1.0 stars - Poor, flawed; 750 ml bottle I would like to see the chain of custody on this bottle. Admittedly, I am not an Irish whiskey fan. But this got great reviews and sounded like a flavor profile I enjoy. Like almost all highly rated whiskey, it complexly disappeared from shelves for the last two years. Imagine my excitement seeing it back in stock at my favorite shop. When I opened it was very tight, aroma and taste. Like I-am-in-very-uncomfortable-social-situation-and-do-not-know-what-to-say tight. Gave it time to breath. Gave it months in the bottle. Opens up. And reveals some discordant young and off notes. This tastes like an imposter. Or this sold out rapidly and they overstretched existing stocks to replace.

Nose: vanilla and honey Pallet: peppery smoke Finish: oaky and cherry

Good single pot still irish whisky. Easy to drink.

On par with Redbreast 12. I did a comparison between this, Redbreast 12, and Teeling Pot Still. I'm not gonna mention Teeling in this as that whiskey is nowhere near the same class as the others (despite being similar in price). The color is a beautiful gold. The nose reminds me of strawberry shortcake. You'd expect the taste to be just as sweet as the nose, but it was more like honey, jam, on lightly toasted high grain bread. The moutfeel is oily and has a long finish. Its a bit drier than Redbreast 12 and has less fruity, sherry characterisitics. But I love the mouthfeel and nose a bit better with the John's Lane. Oof this is tough. I like them both for different reasons. Grab a bottle of both if you can't decide (and stay away from Teeling Single Pot).
