Im a wild turkey lover. 101 is my staple bourbon. But its getting harder and harder not to fork over the extra dough for a bottle of rare breed more often than i should. Its such a massive upgrade to the 101, and im someone who believes that the 101 is pound for pound the best bouron/dollar on the market. And even at its recenty higher price point (~$55 in my neck of the woods), Rare Breed holds its own as an excellent value even among barrel proof bottles that are +50% in relative price, and i would choose it over almost all of them on most days. It has the added advantage that you can find it just about anywhere.
A legitimate contender among heavyweight bourbons, and bests them in all the value department.
NEAT
NOSE - Rich notes of caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar with some oak that is not overpowering like some barrel strength bourbons.
PALATE - Thick and coats the mouth. Nose transfers over to the palate with the vanilla and caramel being more dominant than the brown sugar or oak.
FINISH - Long
BUY? - Absolutely. This should be one of your first barrel strength pours for the price and because it sets good expectations as you go on your bourbon journey.
BUY AGAIN?? - Yes. Definite bottle to keep on the shelf once the one on the bar is done.
Its good but I'm not in love with it. Its got a lot of flavor and complex but does have quite a bit of burn even for 115 proof. It need to be watered down to at least 90 proof to get rid of the burn. And at that point it tastes watered down

Hooks you right off the bat with the nose. The palate confirms the nose and the finsh lingers with all the right notes. Im sure there’s better out there, but not by much. And not for the price. Proof point brings some heat so you have to like that.
