Woodford Reserve Straight Rye

I couldn't disagree more with the professional review. Barely a rye. As I use rye's mostly as mixers for Manhattans, this was an utter failure. Well, maybe some hyperbole there, but I will not purchase again. Go for Rittenhouse, High West or Templeton. As a sipper, it still doesn't offer the spicy rye taste that I love. It does nothing very well. Okay, checking back, I did purchase again. Having refined my palate since my initial tasting, it is a rye after all. Further, I am actually enjoying this rich, subtle rye. Will try in a Manhattan soon.

Tastes wonderful. Good rye balance Update: Nose: vanilla spice and oak Palate: just as I remembered. Subtle spice with some good vanilla flavor. So smooth as well. Love it! Finish: oak and vanilla

Very nice. Smooth. Complex, but not overbearing. Sweet char that lasts through the end. Moderate and bright anise/menthol/hay follows closely behind. The rye fades and light cocoa and oak make an appearance with sweet oak tannins taking you through the medium long finish. If you love bourbon and rye, it's delicious, if you dislike rye, you'll still probably dislike it. If you're a rye purist, you'll say you hate it and drink it when no one is watching

Barely rye. More corn bourbon than rye flavors. Maybe a place to start for somebody wanting to try rye for first time. It is good, sweet, rich, very soft... It's just not a true spicy rye.
