Back on the gin bandwagon and got hold of a 50ml of this to sample.
Trying straight it tasted like citrus floral soap. Nice lightly viscous mouth feel. Initially I was thinking this isn't really a style that rocks my boat but not to shabby but then after a bit thought maybe a bit to soapy floral like for me. I prefer strong juniper citrus notes and this is not that. Still very nuanced and well balanced and put together so if you do prefer light citrus floral profile then this is a good example.
Mixing with an Alchemy & Tonic Grapefruit and Thyme tonic water (NZs newest tonic offering) it mixes well but very faint influence despite ~ 1:4 ratio. I'm definitely enjoying this but there is a longish list I'd prefer over this one.

@Ancient33w It's definitely a great quality one and I see why a lot of people like it. That's the beauty with gin though so much endless variety and combo of flavors something for everyone :-). I can generally tell just by looking at the botanicals if i'm going to like it. This one I was like hmmm but hey top rated and only a 50ml sample so always worth a shot.. never know if you're going to get surprised!
Hey Soba to bad you didn't like this overall it is one of my favorites. I have noticed that most of the gins that have a real strong juniper front tend to have a pepper corn finish which I do not like. But different tastes for different folks.
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes i did note the whiskey wasn't highly rated. i didn't check if it was their product or sourced however. I'm a bit detached from the whiskey side of things since my sampling phase ended. Still like a dram but don't have any about the house since i finished my Kilchoman Red wine in record time!
@CKarmios The rating I give for gin is wmore heavily influenced by the flavour profile than whiskey for me vs quality and balance. I like most types of whiskey: sherry, bourbon peated etc so generally more about the quality and balance of the particuar style. Gin has so much botanical variety however and anything floral or perfumey e.g. lavender, rose etc just doesn't click. Hence I'm often rating gins fair bit lower than average or people I'd be more aligned scoring wise for other spirts. If you like perfumey floral then this is good quality. if you prefer punchy juniper, citrus, herbal then give it a miss!
I think I have their single malt, but haven’t heard too many favorable reviews of it. Maybe it’s meant as mixer only?
With a community rating of 4.2, I’ve been wondering about this one
