Casamigos Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico

After my latest experience with mezcal, I picked up a bottle of tequila that I have been wanting to try for over a year now and really should have read the last few reviews here. Casamigos Blanco tequila is not worth the price and in my area, it is just above $40 a bottle and I have had better Blanco tequilas at much less in price. In the glass, it does coat the sides nicely and on the nose, it has a fairly pungent aroma but that is not bad it lets you know right off the bat that you are about to drink a real agave tequila and not tequila that has had a neutral spirit added to it. The body is earthy and a bit rough but it is a Blanco tequila with no aging. The finish is peppery and harsh with the earthy notes lingering the most. My favorite Blanco tequila is Corralejo which I will be reviewing in the next week or so. Given the price, I will not be repurchasing this again but I am on the lookout for new tequila so I am open to suggestions. Enjoy.

El Charro silver. The best value in tequila, IMO.
Thanks ctbeck. I will keep an eye out for them.
If they have Pasote, G4, Tequila Ocho, or El Tesoro available in your area, give one of them a try. Casamigos accomplishes its profile through the generous use of various additives. The brands mentioned above use traditional harvesting and distillation practices, which I respect and am willing to pay extra for to support. Casamigos is celebrity tequila engineered to fit the palate of the average American consumer, who prefers sweeter, more whiskey-like aromas and flavors. There’s nothing wrong with it, but you may be surprised by how different unadulterated, well-made tequilas are.
I didn’t care either for the blanco, but the wife enjoys the reposado with mixed drinks and I found the anjeo to be a decent sipper, though it’s been several years since I’ve tried it.
