I’ve reviewed this before, but the last one I did was for a single barrel. This is the regular old Eagle Rare 10. I loved the SB. Enough said. Let’s check it out.
Nose: Gala apple and leather. Black cherry. Caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and vanilla. Cocoa and black tea. Pipe tobacco. Black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak.
Palate: Gala apple and leather. Black cherry. Brown sugar, toffee, caramel, and vanilla. Milk chocolate. Black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak.
Finish: Cocoa, tobacco smoke, and black tea. Apple, leather, brown sugar, and caramel. Black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak.
Excellent as always. If I had to say, the single barrel was a cut above the standard. But this was great nonetheless.
I managed to find this for $40. I know it’s been jacked up in many places. It’s a shame to see what’s been happening to the Buffalo Trace line of late. It’s despicably overpriced, and I’m generally just turned off by it all.
With that being said, $40 is an amazing value for this. I always appreciate the BT quality and signature profile. 4,25/5.

@BDanner Ah, well that is something I’ve never heard before. Good to know.
...that being said, I like it just fine for $40. Anything above that, no thanks.
@Whiskey_Hound @DjangoJohnson @angstrom I find this one to be inconsistent, because technically it is still a Single Barrel. It isn't batched like nearly every other bourbon not labeled single barrel and is still dumped into the bottling line a barrel at a time. They removed the SB designation from the label because and update to their bottling line causes slight mingling when switching from one barrel to the next.
@DjangoJohnson I agree with all that you said here. I paid $40 which is a bargain for a quality 10-year old. Had I paid $70-100, I would’ve docked from the score pretty heavily because it frankly is not worth that. Buffalo Trace has been ruined by price-gouging thanks to people buying entire cases at a time
@angstrom I didn’t like my first bottle of this. Didn’t dislike it either. That was probably 2017
And I should also clarify my comment below isn’t intended to throw any shade on your review Whiskey Hound. I myself gave it 3.75 and think it’s pretty much the best in it’s price range so I agree with your assessment. I just feel like it’s excellent within a certain context.
@angstrom I wouldn’t necessarily say it was funny business. I always buy a bottle of Eagle Rare when I see it based on value: it’s a solid 10 year for $30. It’s also a steal at $40 as @whiskey_hound found it. But it’s really not worth more than that. It’s rarity drives the price up and honestly I would feel cheated if I paid the $70-$100 I see it going for online in certain places. Honestly this is a price value equation where a lot of the excitement is how good it is for how cheap it can run. It wouldn’t necessarily surprise me given the hype if you got the real thing and still found it a little boring because it’s not a life changer.
I’ve only had the chance to try this once. It was in a bar and was super boring. Which makes me wonder if there was some funny business going on (refill the ER10 bottle with something smooth and cheap).
