Distilled fall of 2017.
Give this time in the glass. Even after being open almost 8 months, it still wants more time. When you see the heavy lace starting to climb the walls, it’s ready. Nose is rather muted. Dried peanuts in the shell, hard caramel candies, the faintest hint of honey. Palate is much better. Rich and sweet and oily, the peanuts dominate but there’s a nice backdrop reminiscent of homemade honey nougat that seamlessly ties the nuts with the cinnamon and baking spices. Small sips with a lot of air bring out a lighter taste of school-lunch fruit salad, and a lot more cinnamon. Roll this around for a few seconds and you’ll also get some figs and dates. Transition is medium, and carries all the peanut and cinnamon and nougat to a slightly tannic and drying close that somehow still manages to feel rich. Flavors are very nicely integrated, and it’s obvious there was a lot of thought put into this mashbill, the barrels, and the aging. If the nose was just a little better, this would be a standout at any price. As it is now, this is a great drink for a good and fair price, and you should buy a bottle and give it a try.
