Nose: Malt, grapes, raisins, fruitcake, brown sugar, a little peppermint.
Palate: Sweet dried and stewed fruits in the arrival. The development brings some very mild spice (cinnamon, ginger). The palate is very soft and shows no alcohol heat at all.
Finish: Medium/Short. Sweet frosted Christmas cake.
Sweet sherry is very apparent in this dram, on both nose and palate, and it is a mild and easy to approach whisky overall. The finish is on the short side and the profile lacks complexity and depth, but I wouldn't turn down a pour just because of that.
This would be a great whisky for novices and you would have to be very snobbish to dismiss it just because it is easy and lacks “artisan” credentials. I’d recommend it as an everyday dram if you find it at a good price.
Tasted at Jura Distillery, and then again from a 30ml sample, April 18th 2025
“Above Average” : 80/100 (3 stars)
