Slainte-Mhath
Benromach 10 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland

It takes more than a few drams to decipher the great complexity of this lightly peated Speysider. The nose has numerous layers. Predominant features are delicate bonfire smoke, polished wood and caramel sweetness with apricots, green apples and raisins. Flavorwise, Benromach 10 arrives strong and spicy, turning slightly dry and mineral with a blanket of leafy smokiness. Well-balanced oak cask influence contributes to a nutty, savory and prolonged finish, leaving behind mild bitterness and peat smoke. It's a highly recommended, sophisticated whisky.

@Slainte-Mhath Great review and yep, a wonderful distillery. Like Springbank they combine tradition with an adventurous willingness to take risks, but they know when to stop. Finesse.
Re-reviewed in 08/2018: Isn't it lovely to return to a Single Malt, and discover that it is as good as you memorized it? Benromach 10 is still one of the best 10-year-old malts you can buy at this moment in time, and I like it as much as Springbank 10. It has an amazing complexity at this young age, and it leaves a smile on my face. Slàinte!
@PBMichiganWolverine Quality comes at a price, I think. It's funny to see the link here, with Springbank = Cadenhead's and Benromach = Gordon & MacPhail. No coincidence that both Springbank 10 and Benromach 10 score that high. Independent bottlers know what they are doing...!
@Slainte-Mhath this used to be USD$30 when it came out some years back. Was unbelievable value then
@SolanaRoots I actually gave this malt the same rating as Springbank 10, which says a lot. Benromach 10 is not just 'a bit' better than the Organic - in my opinion, it's one of the best standard expressions on the market.
Terrific review! So you rate this one just a shade higher than the Benromach Organic?
