I don't like that people make this dram out to be the second coming of Christ, but beyond the hype, it's a fine dram just the same. The nose has a lovely complexity to it, with sherry notes of dried fruits, orange peel, and nuttiness mingling with bourbon-influenced vanilla, caramel, and coconut. There's also this hint to it that reminds me of the Jim Beam white label my dad always drank when I was a kid...not much, just enough to trigger the memory. On the palate, it's thinner than I would prefer (I'd love to try this bottled at 46% instead of 40%), but flavorsome, with dried fig, spices, apricot, peach, vanilla, caramel, and a coconut finish. I will say that I find this one to be overpriced, but if it retailed for, say, $50 instead, it would be a good buy...so if you can pick it up on sale, go for it.

Rev: I remember reading the Vedas in 6th grade. My mom made me read the Gita, Bible, and Koran in 6th grade. It's amazing the messaging and similarity between all three. All carry the same message---at least seemed like that when I was in the 6th grade. I'm sure it'll be further enhanced now with some whiskey, now that I'm way over the legal age limit
Lol... Whisky and scripture: a great combination.
Eosaph, you just given me my go-to dram for the next time I'm reading the Vedas. Pranay, thanks! I've sampled the 15 yr Solera Reserve a few times now and it's been consistently good. Never great, but enjoyable enough...and a significant improvement over the standard GF 12 year, if nothing else.
I've always been skeptical of "Solera" aged. To me, it's just a diluted version from anything that's 3 yrs old onwards. I get it used used for sherry aging, and some types of rum, but...seems like a marketing plot for whisky. This review makes me second case my theory and try this out. Nice review Reverend!
I've always been skeptical of
It's NOT the Second Coming, you're right. It's actually a manifestation of Brahman.
