Bought a sample of this tonight over our monthly date night. I've had a few Old P's previously...always thought they were good, just nothing great. I stand corrected on this 21 yr old. Lemon shortbread cookies on the nose. Sort of like the old fashioned ones they had in prim and proper British tea houses. Really rich and elegant on the palette, mixed with a wisp of smoke and salinity. As if a Dalmore, Talisker and Balvenie had a love child. If any negative, it's gotta be in the finish. I found it a bit bitter and long, sort of like orange rinds. I paid $7 for a 2 oz pour...no idea what a full bottle is costing, but I'll definaltey be looking out for one if I find it at a reasonable price

I can't believe this one is discontinued ... How sad.
I actually don't get online here, only because I'll wait for an intl trip and load up. I avoid paying VAT on purchases greater than a certain amount ( depending on country).
@Leeevolved - thanks for the tip!
I've been buying 75-80% of my bottles online this year. Virginia's ABC is kooky- they offer some bottles at a nice value, and others at an extreme markup. The only thing I can think is that distributors are setting prices and VA just factors in a profit percentage across the board and sells at that price. I can get good deals on Bowmore and Ardbeg here, but they rob people blind on Glenlivet, Glenmorangie and Macallan. There overall selection is another mystery entirely... As far as what online stores I use, I was partial to acespirits.com out of Michigan for awhile. They have a nice selection, but lately I've been using winesearcher.com and comparison shopping. I've found if I buy 3-4 bottles at a time it keeps shipping costs down to $6-7 per bottle so that beats a lot of local options by a mile. The best part is after buying from a lot of places they send 10-15% coupons for future purchases and that's when I go after the pricier bottles. I just landed the Highland Park 25 for $410 and that was $70 cheaper than any place I've ever seen it.
I've been meaning to ask: is there an online retailer that stands out in terms of assortment, price and service? Are we allowed to share that kind of info on here? 😊
Not sure why prices vary so much, but I always look online for pricier offerings. My last online order was $25 for shipping, but spread across 4 bottles it was less than the State tax.
amazing the price ranges---$130-170. Is that because of state tax variation? Almost makes me think better to get pricier bottles online and pay shipping instead of state tax.
The 21 year old runs around $130 a bottle around here and I believe a 2oz pour at my local watering hole is $25. So, that was a helluva deal. Most people expect their bartender to be a good listener, offer wisdom, but in your case you found the best quality ever- ignorant of his inventory and too lazy to look it up. Cheers to that, haha.
@Pranay, excellent review. I have seen it in Indiana for around $170. A $7 pour is a steal, funny how you suggested that price and got it!
That's amazing ha ha.
I don't think I can even find the 12 year for $7/pour around here...cheers to a heck of a deal at the bar!
Yeah---was almost comical. Wasn't on the menu, but I noticed it on the shelf. So I asked for a pour, he had no idea what to charge. I suggested $7. Figured a win/win.
$7 for a 2-oz pour?! 😲
