Haig Club Single Grain
Single Grain — Lowlands, Scotland

Presented in an over-sized cologne bottle. Nose opens alarmingly sweet and buttery, with pronounced acetone and magic marker. Some rice wine swirling beneath the chemical layers, and a hint of burning nitrile rubber. Palate is all cheap honey, sweet, grainy and slightly sour. Abrubt yet gentle enough finish, something like plywood resin lingers. An "interesting" dram (in a rather bad way). Sampled at a casual tasting party, someone received this as a gift, via store-clerk recommendation (never, ever listen to the store-clerk). Pure marketing fodder for the uninformed masses. Dry glass: almost nothing! Very strange...

Thanks for your posts! Kind of funny that some seem to like the large cologne bottle, as I think it looks ridiculous. With that said, I'm about to host a tasting, with a number of highly-rated selections. The Wine Merchant here in St. Louis is selling Haig Club bottles for $19.99 right now, so I decided to buy one as a bit of a joke "comparison". We shall see . . .
😂 You lads are hilarious, thanks for acknowledging my bravery!
I reviewed this a while back and see that I also gave it two stars. It was one of the darker spots in an otherwise pretty darn good Drinks by the Dram sample set I got last Christmas. That 3 cl sample saved me from ever spending a dime to satisfy any curiosity I might have had about what was in the cologne bottle. Good review, Davie. I see we're on the exact same page.
I always chuckle when I see this on the shelf- it looks like a gigantic bottle of Polo cologne. Fitting that the prettiest of the pretty European football stars was hired to endorse this crap. Thanks for saving me the time, money and probable upset stomach this would cause me, Davie. If they gave medals for bravery I would bestow it upon you in this case. Cheers.
This is that crap with Beckham's picture on it. In an interview, he said he never drank while he was playing pro, but after he retired this was one of his first drinks.
Thanks for saving me the effort!
