This was my first introduction into peated single malt, and it certainly lives up to its reputation. This being said, getting used to the taste was certainly an adjustment. At first it felt like what drinking a campfire might feel like. I've come to love the smokey quality of Talisker, and upon multiple tastings, I'm able to get more notes of spice, bacon, and a chewy, almost granola-like quality. Also opens up a lot more with a few drops of water. Not recommended for whiskey newbies, but if you've enjoyed unpeated single malts such as The Balvenie and want to try a peated whiskey, this is a good first step before you try and tackle some of the Islay drams.
