Honestly, I've had several bottles of Bowmore (12), and while it is, without doubt, the most inconsistent taste of any scotch I've ever sampled, when it is "on," buddy, you want it. I've had a unique "wood" flavor no other scotch has ever mustered; I've had "bandaid" and "iodine," … it really depends on the batch you get, which, in some ways, is how it ought to be.

Batch variation seems to be a big issue - when I tasted Bowmore 12 in a bar, it was both unpleasant and boring. However, a couple of weeks later I had a 5 cl miniature and the taste was not even alike - and much better. Was this the same malt I tasted/tested weeks earlier? Reading through various comments and reviews, I get the impression that batch variation is the main reason for widely different opinions...
