I had a pour of this, courtesy of a local wine shop’s free tasting event. Out of the JWs I’ve had (black, green, island green, blue), this is probably my worst. Served chilled, over ice, it was flavors of red berry water, a bit sweet and thin. Nose is similar....red fruits, especially berries. It’s not bad considering the price ($30), and it’s clearly driven by an exec sitting in a suit and tie, looking at partnership revenues from HBO and Diageo. But, with that said, I really do feel it’ll end up being a collector’s item. Yes...I bought a bottle, not with the intent of drinking it...it’s piss water with a hint of raspberry...but with the sole purpose of collecting as a die-hard GoT fan. In that sense, I’m sure Diageo’s goal is accomplished....a person like me ( $30 is not breaking the bank, a huge GoT fan, and likes whiskey) is in their core market. If this didn’t have the White Walker GoT branding, would I have bought a bottle, or even tried a pour? HELL NO. I’ll probably end up getting all, but honestly gotta say the only two I’m interested in drinking are Lag and Talisker. Others will just sit there and look pretty, but quite empty in taste.

@PBMichiganWolverine I’ve tried instagram messaging Diageo to release non chil filtered/natural color versions of lagavulin, talisker, jw green, Oban and I’ve gotten no response. Diageo is overly insistent on chil filtering thinking about cloudiness for those average drinkers who drink on rocks or mixed (cloudiness irrelevant). I don’t know anyone who has complained about a cloudy whisky
@WhiskyWitch LOL - "Volda-Mortlach" - brilliant :-) I'll never look at a bottle of "the beast" again without thinking that.
Bellatrix Laphroaig, Mad-Eye Miltonduff, Sirius Brackla, Deanston Thomas. You could stretch this to the Nth degree
@WhiskyWitch hey Diageo...if you’re reading...we formally submit in writing that if you use these ideas, we each get a lifetime supply of Lagavulin.
Volde-Mortlach vs. Dumble-Dalmore
@The_Rev Ha! Well Prof. Lupin probably drinks Wolfburn :-)
I had a better experience with this than you, but I can't imagine why I'd want to buy another bottle. @cascode, you've just inspired me to try to figure out which whisky matches up with which Harry Potter character. I mean, Hogwarts *is* in Scotland, after all...
Paint me curmudgeonly but I'm ignoring this whole distasteful marketing ploy by Diagio and won't be acquiring any of these GoT bottlings. It's a wonder they didn't replace the Striding Man with Strider a few years back and do a Lord of the Rings tie in. What's next? Dumbledore's Dalmore? Peter Pan's Private Pulteney? A pox upon them all.
@Generously_Paul even if it doubles or triples...can’t easily liquidate it anyway. It’s “ just paper gains.”
@PBMichiganWolverine I think expecting the value to triple is a stretch. Maybe double, but I think the market was flooded with this stuff. You’re lucky to have only paid $30 for your bottle. I bought 2 at $42 each, damn Michigan prices.
@Adrias5280 piss water with raspberries was being generous. 😊
@Scott_E I wouldn’t be surprised if it triples in the secondary.
I got a bottle just to collect, but with a tasting note of “piss water with a hint of raspberry”, I am morbidly curious to try it now. Maybe I can convince my local liquor store to include it in a future tasting.
@PBMichiganWolverine I purchased one too for the same reasons as you. All that being said, Diageo plan is working as designed. Wait till the single malts are eventually released (agree with you those two are the ones I am most interested in as well). Money grab, and I think it will work well.
@Richard-ModernDrinking not at all. It’s a situation of “ let’s maximize the ROI ( and our bonuses) by putting shit juice that we can’t bottle otherwise, and just put a nice label and temperature changing graphics “
Oh dear. I was hoping this was at least as good as regular Black.
