One of those whiskies that I would be happy to just nose all night: it transports you to a rugged shore with the air full of sea brine and Scottish heather. The taste is almost besides the point, but it’s richer than the ABV suggests, less peaty than a young Laphroaig and sweeter to beat. It fades a little on the mid-palate but finishes long, strong and sweet. I had only an ounce of this, courtesy of a special deal for members of my favorite bar’s whisky club, but it was enough to put me in a euphoric mood for the main event of the night, Kamasi Washington at The Apollo Theater. And thus, my friends, I can disclose that the combination of vintage Laphroaig and two and a half hours of transcendental live jazz is the key to opening your third eye.

@bigwhitemike You’re not far wrong: the concert I went to that night was videoed and is now available to stream on Amazon. Just add whisky!
Holy hell, I had no idea just how far removed I was from opening my 3rd eye. Need to start assembling the necessary ingredients.
@Richard-ModernDrinking that’s easy...the 18 is in my bunker! Will crack that open before considering the 27
@kyle_brady if you’re looking to spend close to $400—I fully concur with @Richard-ModernDrinking—-the Laphroaig 18 , or even 25, might be better VFM. There’s probably differences , but I question if that difference is worth the extra $$
@kyle_brady You can’t go wrong with this bottle if you’re looking to spend that much money. Have you had Laphroaig 18 though? You might want to track that down first, and it should cost you less.
I’m a fairly cultured human and for some reason I’ve never even considered seeking out transcendental live jazz. I shall now seek out that very thing...thanks! Ended up here cuz of a sale on L27 @399 so wanted to seek out opinions. I’m a Laphroaig fan, prefer Lore, Cairdeas Triple Wood, and 10 CS so far. As a big bottle purchase I’m considering this 27 and the Redbreast 27 Ruby atm
@PBMichiganWolverine Docked it a notch for the slight weakness in the mid-palate, but in truth the nose alone is worth five stars.
@Richard-ModernDrinking damn, I’d expect more from a 27 yr Laphroaig
@Richard-ModernDrinking - something tells me you have some remarkable bottles sitting in your vault...
@LeeEvolved Hell yeh, though a recent thinning of the herd has left my collection a bit pedestrian by your standards.
@Richard-ModernDrinking - so, I can mark you down as an attendee? If so, could you tease us a little with which bottles you can be influenced into sharing?
@LeeEvolved @PBMichiganWolverine Oooh.... I was wondering what was happening with our private festival plan.
@Richard-ModernDrinking - and I need 8-10 friends to help me drink it all. Can I mark you down as one? I hear there’s an amazing private whisky tasting taking shape for mid-to-late summer. @PBMichiganWolverine Is rumored to be opening some of the oldest scotch whisky on the planet.
@LeeEvolved You appear to have at least 180 years of Laphroaig!
Great review. As if I need more reasons to open my older Laphroaig’s. Cheers.
