I'll keep this one fairly short... Is this an acceptable dram? Sure, it was pleasant... Had some really pleasant wood spice that offset the malt notes... Would I pay more than $40 for a bottle? Absolutely not. For a contrast the Glenfiddich 14 is leaps and bounds better IMO. There may be some exceptional Kavalan out there, but this is not it! Cheers All!

@dubz480 nice! Thank you! So—-I had opened up a Kavalan Solist Vinho quite some time ago. I might have saved myself a 6cl sample —-if I find it, will send it over. That’s much better than the regular stuff.

Yeah Soloist is where it's at. Solist Sherry Cask Matured (4.5), Solist Vinho Single Malt (4.25), Solist ex-Bourbon Cask (4). Although saying that I rated this a 4 as well! One thing I have noted with Kavalan is they are highly variable and also overpriced. That said I have 5 holy grail drams I want to try and Kavalans make up 3. Soloist Amontillado, Manzanilla and Moscatel. The others are being kindly provided by @LeeEvolved (Red Spot) and @PBMichiganWolverine (Talisker 15 Special release). I was thinking about buying the 3 bottles but I'm way too wary of Kavalans variation and at that price I do not want to get a dud!

@PBMichiganWolverine at $500 or so I can't imagine they would hold up! I was looking forward to this one as well! Oh well, we live and learn right! FYI in your sample pack I put in my first ever barrel pick! The proceeds are going. to benefit Fisher House charity and the barrel is from IronRoot!

I think the Solist ones are much better. But...still, even those aren’t worth the price
