Damn this is good. I'd buy a bottle in a heartbeat. It's a definite 4.25 to 4.5 for me. Yeah it's sweet dessert like but pulls back from cloying sweetness. It marries all the components very very well. Definitely prefer over the green. The yellow in the old days is a tough call. Probably give it the edge over that too. Slight bitter edge detracts somewhat and I could see on an off day maybe I'll pull it down to 4.25 but 4.5 on the night tonight...has lived up to expectations.
Big thanks to @LeeEvolved for shipping a giant sample 15000kms to NZ.

@1901 Ah interesting. Your phone must be even older than my 4 year old S7 which is version 8! :-). Mines still hanging in there so hopefully get until end of the year when Samsung reduces prices of the S20s when Apple's latest iPhone models come out. Cheers, I've been in intensive training recently!
@Soba45 the update on my recent issue is that as of the latest update-(3331) Distiller is only fully supported on Android 7.1 and above, and only installs on 64bit Android. My trusty phone is Android 7. Btw enjoy Dramfest!
@Soba45 the key issue of how to monetize this is central to the theme...probably too late now
@PBMichiganWolverine It could indicate that they have lost complete faith in their ability to stabilise and support the application, or that it just can't handle being transferred over to new architecture...but that they also can't remain on existing infrastructure as it doesn't support the ever increasing loads. It raises questions about the future of the app because the problems they are having appear to be tied to ability to handle larger volumes so leaving it alone and not doing anything isn't a valid option it seems. It could also just be they have limited resource and too many problems so doing what they have done they can concentrate on one application at a time as well and park the app solving problem to later; or that they have successfully ported across their website so are driving people to that whilst they rehabilitate the app. All speculation and conjecture of course :-).Would love to be a fly on the wall!
@Soba45 for those of us not as technical—why is that bad?
@1901 Cheers and wow things must really be bad if they are doing that... that's almost a nuclear option!
@PBMichiganWolverine @Scott_E I'm always fascinated in terms of what's under the hood so to speak. Annoying not to have a deeper understanding of what they are doing but that said very happy not to be fixing the mess as I've been there before for a several month period and not one I want to repeat!
@Soba45 good work. I can see comments now. I have been in touch with other issues and they advised me that a new update just went out. However, i would caution against taking this update. On my android phone it is just a shell UI for the website and doesn’t have usability and features of the app, like sorting lists, adding bottles, notifications and filtering feeds. It even has a banner to suggest that you “download the free distiller app”. So it may be an interim step while they resolve issues, or worse it could be that they are moving away from app development.
@Soba45 Infrastructure and design. Technological friend or foe, depending which side of the virtual wall you are on.
@Scott_E our buddy @Soba45 from NZ places a call, and put his IT consulting chops to work.
@Scott_E yeah it was cos its a back end issue not to do with the app itself which i suspected given the issue occurred without any app update
@PBMichiganWolverine @Soba45 can see comments now. I know they rolled out an update. Checked immediately afterwards, but was still happening then. But, again, for the moment, comments can be seen
@PBMichiganWolverine I flagged it as a severity 1 bug...Haha
@Soba45 wait, that’s all it took?? Wow. In our corporate world, I have to 1) call help desk to open a ticket 2) they create a Work order 3) I’m made to sign the WO, 4) after a few months, I’m told they’re finally making the changes.
@Scott_E And now I can read all your comment yes a number of us have had issues viewing more than a certain number of comments or feed items but it's very random for be. seems fine at the moment. i suspect either time outs or deliberate throttling due to heavy traffic load.
@1901 @PBMichiganWolverine @Scott_E @Rick_M Ok i contacted distiller and notified that they have a back end issue around viewing comments and they fixed it in an hour. Fast service!
@1901 app sucks...ain’t worth the phone space. Website is better, but cumbersome in responding to comments
I'm having the same problems with the app. Slow load times and unable to see comments.
@Slainte-Mhath The answer is no it's not worth the $$ compared to RB 21 or in fact full stop. I'd only be buying it for nostalgia re. living in Ireland and the fact I've followed the range and all its variants from birth
I am still questioning if a 15-year-old Irish whiskey is worth spending 130 €. I could almost get a bottle of Redbreast 21 for that amount. Maybe a bit too much hype?
@Rick_M @Scott_E @PBMichiganWolverine It really us a case of just when things can't get worse they do. I can't believe I'm already pining for the good old days where although slow and painful I could at least SEE comments.
@Rick_M @PBMichiganWolverine Thanks for the heads up/same experience for me. Unfortunate about the mobile app. I hope they can get it turned around soon.
@Rick_M Can only see part of your comment through the feed so with that caveated... that would be great. I've drunk the other two extensively but would love to try all three at once. :-)
@Scott_E the mobile app is just a waste of space at this point. Can’t view any comments. Takes away the “social” from a social app. The website is usable....but is painstaking for some comments.
I tasted all 3 in one sitting when in Ireland. I thought the Red was the clear winner, but the glassware may have had something to do with it. The bar served whiskey in an 8” tall by 1.5” diameter and cylindrical glass. It really helped to dissect the bouquet. We found the same glassware used for whiskey in a few other bars as well. I would call it a tall soda glass. Maybe the Irish is setting a new trend.
@Scott_E - yes, the mobile app is unusable at this point. Can’t see beyond 10 posts and no ability to see comments.
@PBMichiganWolverine @cascode @Soba45 Red was my overall preference slightly edging Yellow and Green a narrow third. All very good though. Can't go wrong with any. One a side note: Is anyone having issues with the mobile app seeing threads and comments. It seems for me that it's almost unusable. Can't even scroll past 10-12 reviews/comments. Just doing a status check before reaching out to support team.
@cascode I’ve not tried the Montelena, just the Leoville. The Leoville was amazing. I tried it when it first came out, hopefully quality has kept pace.
@PBMichiganWolverine Leoville Barton or Chateau Montelena? I've had the former and it is excellent, but never tasted the latter. I 'd still take standard Yellow Spot over any Green Spot. It's squarely in my comfort zone.
@Soba45 @cascode i might be the outlier, but I preferred the yellow over the red. And the green wine finished over the yellow.
@Just a personal opinion as a lot of people think otherwise. The yellow is a fair bit cheaper as well but would definitely grab a bottle if this despite my desire to limit my bottle buying going forward!
Oooh, better than Yellow Spot? That's my gold standard for quality + value in Irish.
