This distillery has cult status. People in the know swear by SB and praise everything they put out. This is the entry level but enjoys its own following. The opposition claims this is overpriced and has a funky taste. I wanted to decode the Springbank mystery for myself. Poured neat, this is as advertised. Peaty(more bog than smoke) like the mud caked on your boots after walking in the moors. Tangy, as in overripe citrus. Red grapefruit is prominent, blood orange comes to mind. Some smoke yes but its damp from salty ocean spray. There is malt hidden under there and some seasoned barrel. Mouthfeel is a little thin yet the flavors are deep. The peat, fruity tang, salty smoke and dry wood carry from nose to finish. This is a complete scotch and is savory and satisfying. Now if you don't like this profile then its not for you......but if this pushes your buttons you will join the cult. Im ready for the kool-aid and the 15yr.......93/100....sign me up

This is over $70 when I see it here rarely, but today I found a few bottles with the old black label marked $52. I assume the juice inside is the same.
You can't go wrong with Springbank. Problem is, I see fewer and fewer bottles available, most of the core range is sold out, at least here in Norway.
@Jan-Kaselitz you cant buy alcohol off Amazon in the US anymore. I’ve used a few delivery services, but the selection isn’t always the best, or there’s mark-ups/high shipping costs. For samples I only really know of Finedrams for the US - would love to hear any other suggestions.
@BDanner Yeah well again here in Europe / the EU shipping also is extremely cheap and most of the time completely free. Also Amazon here sells a lot of high quality Whisky as well - and that comes with free shipping most of the time as well. I try to avoid that as much as possible since especially people working in logistics, shipping and delivery are underpaid which is why it is like that. But yeah there we are again consuming in ever corner of capitalism.
@Jan-Kaselitz not everyone will ship to my state. Usually with in demand products it is cost prohibitive when you factor in $20-$30 shipping, unless you’re making a very large order.
@BDanner @WhiskeyLonghorn @RLDN106 @Ctrexman just out of curiosity - isn’t ordering online a choice where you are? I support my local whisky dealer but if he doesn’t have what I am looking for I have a couple of online stores that are usually 20 to 30% cheaper shipping included.
@Ctrexman Sold out when I called in to place - gonna keep my eyes peeled.
@RLDN106 yeah its worth 66 to try it if you enjoy the profile. I would repurchase but Im gonna go up to try the 15 next
@Ctrexman Cheapest I’ve found is $66 here in NYC. Worth it for anything sub-$70?
@BDanner funny to hear you say that, because I was at the store yesterday and Lap 10 was still $40 but Ardbeg 10 had gone up $10. Still got the Ardbeg...
@bigwhitemike ...ah, those were the days. I wouldn't trade 'em, but I wouldn't want to do it over. Getting back to whisky, tried three ABC's in Wilmington today and no Springbank to be seen. Also made the sad discovery that the tariffs have finally hit Laphroaig. Lap10 has jumped from $55 to $75, Lap Select (which I've been putting in Coke for God's sake) has jumped from $35 to $50. Ardbeg10 was hanging in there at $55, so I nabbed a bottle of that before the tariff fairy sprinkles her evil dust over it as well.
@BDanner haha, despite all odds the baby formerly known as 2 months old has graduated to being 4 months old. Celebrated by getting her shots today! Go, go infant Tylenol!
Springbank is next on m list. AND IT'S PAYDAY!
@bigwhitemike ...please tell us that there is still a baby in your care? Albeit a few months older?
I agree on your assessment. I have bottle of the 10y which has maybe 2 more drams left in it. Really enjoyed it. I gonna do a review on my last dram of this bottle. But I guess it will stay in line of what you tasted with this new bottle. I have a sample of the 18y here. I think I will do the last dram of the 10y and the dram of the 18y together to see how it advances.
They only get better from this one :)
Welcome to the cult - here's your robes and ruby slippers. Now, click the heels and repeat the secret password: "There's no place like Springbank ... there's no place like Springbank"
Agree with your notes and conclusions. Just opened my bottle and tasted for the first time two months back - delicious! Feel like it’s a different animal than the 15 and they really ought not be compared. Somehow didn’t have the time to collect my thoughts and make tasting notes... likely the 2 month old baby in my care at the time. Guess it’s time to correct that.
